Corsicana —
Detectives from the Corsicana Police Department and the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department joined forces Monday in the arrest of a 19-year-old Corsicana man on a variety of drug charges.
Jacob Ross Douglas was arrested Monday at a south Corsicana motel. Police Detective Garrett Harrell and Sheriff’s Detective Clint Andrews took Douglas into custody without incident, said Capt. Elmer Tanner of the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives found two separate safes in Douglas’ motel room that contained methamphetamine, marijuana, and a controlled substance in pill form, along with digital scales and other paraphernalia, Tanner said in a news release Tuesday. A semi-automatic pistol with ammunition was also found in one of the safes.
Douglas was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance over four grams/under 200 grams, a first degree felony; manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance less than 28 grams, a state jail felony; and possession of marijuana over two ounces/less than four ounces, a class A misdemeanor.
Tuesday, Navarro County Justice of the Peace Jackie Freeland set bonds on Douglas totaling $60,500.
“Due to the combined efforts of the agencies working together, they are doing a good job of combating the drug problem we have in Corsicana in Navarro County,” Tanner said.

Griffin retires after three decades teaching
When the school bell rings today, it will signal for most the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation.
But for Dana Griffin, it will mark the end of his 30-year career teaching ag science at Corsicana High School, the only job he’s had since graduating from college.
Though he is excited about his new horizons, this day will most likely be bittersweet, as 30 years of animals, ag projects, and kids — it’s always been about the kids — draws to a close. -
Schools ready for summer
With a nearly balmy winter, local school districts faced the end of the year with so-called “snow days” still in their pockets. Corsicana schools will spend one of those bad weather days Monday, taking off Memorial Day.
The other free day was spent on April 9, the Monday after Easter.
“We called it Good Friday, Better Monday,” said Susan Johnson, spokeswoman for the district. -

Relay for Life donations still pouring in
