If you’re thinking you need to plan a trip to tax office at the Navarro County Courthouse Friday to get your property taxes paid in 2012, you actually have some options.
You can come to the courthouse on Friday as planned, or you can wait until Wednesday, Jan. 2, and it will still count in 2012.
That’s the word from Russell Hudson, tax assessor/collector for Navarro County.
Because the courthouse will be closed on Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1, any taxes that are paid on Jan. 2, 2013, will count as paid in 2012, Hudson said.
Taxpayers who prefer to use the mail can still do so, and get the extra time. Hudson said any tax payments that are postmarked on or before Jan. 2, 2013, will still qualify as a 2012 payment.
To save a trip to both the post office and the courthouse, Navarro County taxpayers can always pay their taxes online. There is a service fee of 2.5 percent for using a credit card or debit card on the online service, but those paying online by an “electronic check” can combine payments on several tax bills and pay only one service fee of $2. Those using the online service can also wait until Jan. 2 to make the tax payment and get credit in 2012.
To access the online service, navigate your web browser to the Navarro County homepage at www.co.navarro.tx.us and click on “County Offices” in the top menu bar. A link for the Tax Assessor/Collector will appear, with a subsequent link to the online payment service.

Grand Jury: Houston area rapper indicted locally on drug charges
A multi-platinum selling rap artist from Houston was indicted Thursday by the Navarro County Grand Jury during its May panel. Wesley Eric Weston, known professionally as “Lil’ Flip,” was indicted on charges of possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams.
