Faith Lutheran Church, 3824 W. State Highway 22, will have a Good Friday Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. April 2 as the crucifixion of Jesus and the great meaning it has for lives is remembered.
Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter beginning with a sunrise worship service at 7:30 a.m. followed by an Easter breakfast. First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin St., will begin “Divorce Care” classes at 6 p.m. April 11 in the church parlor. Greater Love Outreach Fellowship Church, 720 E. Park Ave., where Elder William Lewis Jr. is pastor, will celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ through an Easter play at 6 p.m. April 2. Come and be blessed. The speaker will be Minister Leander Lee. And you are invited to come and join in an Easter morning “son rise” service at 4 a.m. April 4. This anointed service will be celebrating the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. Guest speaker will be Pastor Charles Washington of Haynes Memorial Church of God in Christ. The church will also continue “Corinthians Experience” at 7 p.m. April 7-30. There will be various speakers each night at these services.
Harmony Baptist Church, 400 E. 12th Ave., will hold a Good Friday service at 8 p.m. April 2. The youth will present the pageant “Roads and the Tomb,” under the direction of Sister Annie Solomon and Sister LaTresa Hervey. All are invited to attend.
At 11:30 a.m. April 4, resurrection praise will go forth led by praise team members Minister Chasity Perkins, Sister Dianna Tolliver, Sister Deanna Hernandez, Deacon David Shockley and Deacon Lawrence Williams. Minister Vanessa Baker will give the welcome and the youth department will give speeches and recitations. Bishop John Baker, pastor, will bring the resurrection message. Kelly’s Temple Church of God in Christ will observe Easter services with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. April 4. You are invited to come and enjoy the Lord. Pastor Billy Joe Kelly will speak on “It was at the Cross.” The children will be in a recital program by Sister Eddie Wilson. Griffin retires after three decades teaching
When the school bell rings today, it will signal for most the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation.
But for Dana Griffin, it will mark the end of his 30-year career teaching ag science at Corsicana High School, the only job he’s had since graduating from college.
Though he is excited about his new horizons, this day will most likely be bittersweet, as 30 years of animals, ag projects, and kids — it’s always been about the kids — draws to a close. -
Schools ready for summer
With a nearly balmy winter, local school districts faced the end of the year with so-called “snow days” still in their pockets. Corsicana schools will spend one of those bad weather days Monday, taking off Memorial Day.
The other free day was spent on April 9, the Monday after Easter.
“We called it Good Friday, Better Monday,” said Susan Johnson, spokeswoman for the district. -

Union High Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fundraiser at 6 p.m. at the fire station on FM 638. The menu consists of fried chicken, macaroni salad, green beans, rolls, tea and dessert, and there will be entertainment following the meal. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. -
Relay for Life donations still pouring in
Annot Walthall with the Navarro County Relay for Life received two additional donations Thursday totaling more than $3,000 at the offices of the Corsicana Daily Sun.

Man suspected in Corsicana heist may have done others
The man accused of robbing the Corsicana Shell station at Interstate 45 and Texas Highway 31 is now being investigated for even more hold-ups, according to police investigators up and down I-45.
