Spring Hill Cemetery receives grant
The George H. and Alva Hudson Smith Foundation of Hillsboro recently awarded a grant of $2,000 to the Spring Hill Cemetery Association for continuing restoration of the cemetery.

Courthouse work inches forward
The Navarro County Commissioners court took a few more steps towards the Courthouse renovation Monday when the group met in regular session. They approved two contracts for moving assessments — one for all the electronic equipment, and another for everything else, from a company called Technology Team LLC.

Leukemia patient wants to go to Disney World
Coy Bostian likes baseball and school, and he got a diagnosis of leukemia about two weeks before Christmas. The Mildred fifth-grader turned 11 years old in February. He can expect about three years’ worth of cancer treatments.

Drowning claims two adults; child hospitalized
Two adults drowned and one child was flown to a Dallas hospital by air ambulance after a boat capsized in a stock tank Saturday off Northwest County Road 1146, a few miles outside of Emhouse.

Relay for Life set for annual fundraiser
The time is growing near, and for months, teams have been actively raising money with various fundraiser activities.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, May 17 at The Cook Center at Navarro College, when all survivors of cancer and their caregivers will be honored with a dinner. -

Youth Art Exhibit awards announced
Is there a future Dali, Rembrandt, or Monet in the house? There just might be! The Navarro Council of the Arts welcomed the 15th Annual Young Artist Exhibition and Contest Wednesday. This year’s theme entitled “Fur, Fins and Feathers” explored the idea of the beauty of animals.
