July 2

 The City Of Blooming Grove will hold its Monthly City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove, TX  76626.



July 3

The Sunbeam Club will celebrate the Fourth of July at I-HOP in Ennis. The whistle will blow at 11:30 a.m. for all railroaders, their families, friends and anyone who loves a train. Make your plans now to join in the celebration with food, fun and great fellowship.



Oak Valley Crime Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. Everyone is welcome. Please bring a covered dish. We will play bingo.



July 4

The Freedom Festival, the annual Corsicana fireworks show put on by the Rotary Club, will begin at 6 p.m. at IOOF Park. Also sponsored by the Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department, there will be food vendors, bounce houses, live music, and fireworks at dusk.



The Eureka Crime Watch will NOT meet today, as it normally does on the first Wednesday of each month. Stay tuned for an outstanding program on the first Wednesday of August. Have a safe July 4th celebration.



Long Prairie Cemetery Association at Rural Shade is having its annual meeting at noon at the cemetery site. Anyone interested in the cemetery and its upkeep are welcome to attend. Please bring a chair and ice water. It will be very warm. For more information, call (903) 675-7326.



July 5

Corsicana Public Library hosts 2012 Summer Reading Club at 11 a.m. each Thursday at 100 N. 12th St. The guest today will be Dan Gibson Stories and Banjo. For more information, call the library at (903) 654-4810.



The Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire station. The speaker will be Navarro County Tax Assessor/Collector Russell Hudson. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.



American Red Cross will hold a Corsicana Community Blood Drive from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Martin Hall. Blood donations are most needed in the summer months, when the demand is higher — but often there are fewer donors during those months. Red Cross blood drives from May 22 to July 31 will give donors a chance to win a Gibson guitar, courtesy of The Gibson Foundation. The Red Cross will award multiple guitars during this campaign. July 7

Homecoming Saturday at Chatfield will offer lots of fun for the whole family all day.  It begins with the Annual Homecoming Picnic and Barbeque at 12 noon  at the Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center, sponsored by the Chatfield Cemetery Association.  In a departure from past years, barbecue prepared by Chatfield's own John Ellington will be served with all the customary trimmings.  Cost is  $7 for adults.  Children 4-12 will be half price.  Children under 3 are free as are Seniors age 90 and above. In honor of Independence Day only three days before, a Homecoming Parade will be held at 5 p.m. beginning at the Chatfield United Methodist Church.  So long as it has patriotic decoration, any vehicle may be entered.  The Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center will sponsor an ice cream supper with homemade ice cream made by the best cooks in Chatfield following the parade.  Prizes for the best recipies will be awarded. July 9-13

Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department hosts a chess camp in the City Annex from 1 to 3:30 p.m. daily. This is part of the Summer Program Series to provide free, fun activities to kids during the summer. For more information about this program, contact (903) 654-4874.

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will have its meeting at 6 p.m. in the new Lodge Hall at 200 Oak Lawn.  All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.



July 10

The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m.   The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call (903) 872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7, 1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Navarro Regional Hospital is hosting a blood drive on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 3201 W. Highway 22 in the classrooms. The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present “The Boys Next Door” beginning Thursday, July 12.  The opening night includes an after-the-show  reception immediately following the performance. An Off-Broadway success, this very funny and equally touching play focuses on the lives of four mentally-challenged men who live together in a group home. Filled with humor, the play is also marked by the compassion and understanding with which it peers into the lives of its handicapped protagonists. Tom Griffin’s play is as relevant today as it was when it was written in 1986. Other performances will be July 13-15, 17, 19-21. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinee on July 15 begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Warehouse Living Arts Center which is located at 119 West 6th Avenue across from the post office.   For reserved seating and ticket info, please call the box office at (903 )872-5421. The Blooming Grove Pee Wee Football Association will have it annual meeting and first sign ups at 4 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend, in order to make this a successful football season.
