Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County.



Dec. 14

The Corsicana Newcomers' Club will hold its Christmas meeting at 11 a.m. at the Kinsloe House.  Zanada Schoppert will entertain the group with a medley of holiday favorites.  This is the perfect way to celebrate the Holidays with friends old and new!  Representatives from our charities will be on hand to receive our donations to their organizations. The Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. The program will be Christmas music presented by a quartet composed of Bernie Thompson, Larry Talbert, Peggy Smith and Lucy Waterman. All former school employees are invited to attend.



Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle will hold a Potluck Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the hospital classrooms. To make reservations, contact Connie Beal at (903) 654-6982.



Corsicana High School A Cappella Choir will perform at Corsicana National Bank and Trust, 321 N. 15th St. at 3:30 p.m.  

Dec. 15

Martin Luther King Jr. Center presents an Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature jewelry, children’s storybooks, hats, purses, scarves, decorative T-shirts, clothing, canned goods, and much more. There will be food and drinks available. The MLK Center is located at 1114 E. Sixth Ave., please contact E. Burrell at (903) 874-2821 for an application or more information.

A Frost High School Variety show, complete with bell choir, magic act and dancing and singing, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Frost Auditorium. The cost is $10 for adults, and $5 for anyone younger than 18 years. Following the show will be refreshments provided by the Collin Street Bakery. The money raised from the event will go towards a school trip to New York City next summer.



Dec. 17

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (1 blk W of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by senior citizens and veterans.



Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle Club will take a day trip to the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. Travelers will leave the hospital at 9 a.m. To reserve your seat, call Connie Beal at (903) 654-6892.



The Emhouse Community Center will have a Christmas meeting at 6 p.m. Please bring a dish and a $5 gift to be exchanged. Please come, we missed you all for the November meeting.



Corsicana Art League will hold Dec meeting at The Italian Village at 6 p.m.  Everyone welcome to join us.  Dinner on your own.  Come, bring a friend.  For more info call Deb at (903) 519-9082.

Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas, 720 N. Beaton, will hold a Resume Preparation Workshop at 2:30 p.m. For more information call (903) 874-8276.



Dec. 19

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle Club will have a Lunch Bunch meeting at 11:30 a.m. at the I-45 Collin Street Bakery.



Kinsloe House will hold a program at 12 noon hosted by the publicity committee and featuring Bella Voce. This versatile singing group is comprised of Janet Martin, Cathy Kjellsen and Joanna Fritz. The group has performed at the Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival and Martin’s Music Hall, among other venues. Kinsloe House is proud to host the group as the featured performers for this luncheon, and members are urged to make their reservations early, as this is sure to be a popular program. Please make reservations by calling Kinsloe House at (903) 874-5791 by noon Dec. 17. The publicity committee is headed by Cecelia Alexander and members are Marianne Anderson, Marsha Banks, Jenna Hall, Mellie Howard, Gelene Simpson and Christine Williams.

Jan. 5

Mary Peterson Child Care Center will hold a concert and reception at 7:30 p.m. at The Cook Center. The purpose of the concert is to raise funds for a new facility to be constructed for Mary Peterson Child Care Center. This awareness event is themed “Bridge to the Future — Mary Peterson Child Care Center.”



Jan. 8

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West 7th Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.



The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call (903) 872-5072.
