Rice middle linebacker Keith White said he’ll know sometime soon whether or not he’ll be the school’s valedictorian for the 2010 senior class.
He knows for certain he’s a Class 2A Academic All-State team member.
“It’s a real honor,” White said. “It means a lot because I work hard on the field and in the classroom.”
White was one of five local players to receive the honor from the Texas High School Football Coaches Association.
White was joined on the first team by Mildred’s Zane Cavender and Jason Thomas, both senior offensive/defensive linemen.
Senior lineman Drew Burnett of Mildred was a second-team pick. Burnett was also a AP Class 2A All-State second-team selection.
Mildred senior receiver/defensive back Clay Harrell made honorable mention Academic All-State.
White said he’s not fretting over the valedictorian thing.
“If I get it, that will be cool,” he said.
