Monday deadline to register to vote

March primaries feature two local contested races

Corsicana — Monday is the final day to register to vote in the March 2 primary for Texas governor.

Voter registration cards may be turned in at the voting office in the basement of the Navarro County courthouse.

“Until 5 p.m. Monday, or postmarked by the first,” said Danda Parker, voting administrator.

Early voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 16 to Feb. 26 in the courthouse basement. Extended hours for early voters will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 20, and from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 21.

Requests for a mail ballot may be sent to Danda Parker, Navarro County Elections Administrator, P.O. Box 1018, Corsicana, TX. 75151.

“The last day to receive those is Feb. 23,” Parker said.

There are three local contested races on the March 2 ballots — the Republican primary for Navarro County Justice of the Peace in Precinct 3, the Republican primary for Precinct 4 County Commissioner, and the Democratic primary for Precinct 2 County Commissioner.

The current line-up for the Republican nominee for governor include incumbent Gov. Rick Perry, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina. Democratic candidates for governor include former Houston Mayor Bill White, Houston businessman Farouk Shami, Clement E. Glenn, Bill Dear, Felix Rodriguez Alvarado, Alma Ludivina Aguado and Star Locke.

Polling places for the March 2 primary will generally be the same as last year with one exception, Precinct 402, Parker said.

“We did have one polling place change, it went from Corsicana I.O.O.F. Lodge to the Westhill Church of Christ,” she said.
