Courthouse Veteran’s Day ceremony set Saturday

Corsicana — With the 11th of November falling on a Sunday this year, the Navarro County War Memorial Veteran’s Day Ceremony has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday on the northwest corner of the Navarro County Courthouse square near the War Memorial.

This year’s guest speaker for the event will be Tim Easley, who for years has organized the Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day observances at the courthouse. Easley has announced this will be his last ceremony as organizer.

Also taking part in the ceremony will be the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard, Zanada Schoppert will sing, Jackie Farmer will lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Les Grayson will play taps. Dr. Rick Lamb will provide the invocation and benediction for the event.

Those planning on attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the ceremony.

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
