Nov. 1-3

The Navarro College Department of Theatre presents Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple directed by Daryl R. Worley. Each performance begins at 7 p.m. All performances will be given in the Black Box Theatre, located on the second floor of the AB Building, just above the NC Bookstore. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Seating is limited, so please arrive early. Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.



Nov. 1

American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 320 N.15th in Corsicana, Texas.



Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Navarro County Deputy Sheriff Scott Wiley. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.



Navarro County Realtors Rumble and Carter BloodCare is holding a blood drive from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce meeting room. For more information, contact Judy Riley at (903) 654-8583.



Nov. 3

Navarro County NAACP presents the Fifth Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, 1114 E. Sixth Ave., Corsicana at 7 p.m. at the MLK Center. The theme is “Your power, your vote, your decision.” Speaker will be Dr. Jamal Randy Allen Rasheed, Ph.D. The branch will also be honoring Mr. Leonard and Glynda Dixon, and two special families of the community. Tickets are $20. Dinner will be served.



Northland Communications is proud to present Movie Night on the Green at 6:30 p.m. There will be a showing of Madagascar 3 at Fullerton-Garrity Park Amphitheater, with free popcorn and drinks. Admission is free — simply bring friends and family, blanket or lawn chair, and canned food for the Food Pantry.



Emhouse Community Center will hold a Fish Fry Fundraiser beginning at 11:30 a.m. Please come out and support the community center by purchasing fish and all the trimmings.



Applebee’s is hosting a blood drive on from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at 1901 I-45 in the parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus. Every blood donor will receive a free $5 gift card to Applebee’s. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Jamie Weaver at (903) 872-7630.



Corsicana’s Annual Harvest Festival and Car Show/Food Drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration for the car show ends at 1 p.m. at the Corsicana Visitor’s Center (South end of Beaton and Seventh Ave.). There will be food vendors, music, and lots of awards for the best factory hot rod, best import, best bike and more. Registration is $10 with a donation to the Navarro County Food Pantry. Nov. 4

Kinsloe House will host its First Sunday Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Everyone is invited. Members and non-members must call the Kinsloe House at (903) 874-5791 by Nov.1 by 3 p.m. to make reservations. You must give the time you wish to come and what you wish to eat.  You may also call Jeani at (903) 229-5787 or email her at mamjeani@yahoo.com with your menu, reservations, and your dining time. The menu will be Wisconsin Cheese soup with dippers. The entrée selections will be roast turkey with gravy or classic pineapple baked ham with classic southern dressing, buttery mashed potatoes, sweet corn and  with it all will be Miss Debra’s wonderful rolls. Dessert will be pumpkin spice sheet cake with caramel pecan frosting or simply southern banana pudding. Cost will be $13 per person. It’s a great place to come for a good meal, catching up on things with friends, and visiting. Everyone always has a great time.

The City Of Blooming Grove will hold its Monthly City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce, Blooming Grove, TX  76626.



Nov. 6

The Southern Pacific Sunbeam Club will meet at IHOP in Ennis. This will be another day of food, fun and fellowship while plans are discussed for the upcoming holiday activities. The whistle will blow at 11:30 a.m. for all railroaders, both active and retired, for relatives and friends of railroaders, and those who love a train.



The Corsicana Rotary Club will celebrate election day with a reception from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Cook Center. All candidates are invited to the reception tent near the Air Force Fighter. The chili is from a winning contest recipe and the Rotarians will greet you with open arms.



Community National Bank & Trust of Texas is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 321 N. 15th St. in the front parking lot on the Carter BloodCare Bus. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Brenda Stubbs at (903) 654-4514.

Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Eureka United Methodist Church. Special guest will be Precinct 2 County Commissioner Dick Martin. Join your friends and neighbors for this informative meeting and enjoy the fellowship that follows. Refreshments will be served!



ABWA Committee of Kinsloe House will present its program for the year. The program features well-known singers Byron Haynie and Zanada Talley Shoppert in a delightful musical program featuring country and western songs. This program will be fun for all attending Kinsloe House members. The committee members for this organization is headed by Jera O’Neal , chairperson; with Sandra Palmer, Barbara Watkins, Paula Jones, Martha McCarter, Betty Stokes, and Shirley Long. Members are urged to wear their denim or dress casual and come prepared to enjoy some good toe-tapping country music. Nov. 8

A one day Driver Safety Program will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Navarro Regional Hospital located at 3210 W. Highway 22 in Corsicana. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older, but is open to anyone. The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. All veterans and their spouses can take the course free. Attendees may qualify for reductions in auto-mobile insurance premiums for three years upon completion of the course. Nov. 9

Mary Peterson Child Care Center, 1103 East Collin, will have its Annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner Friday at 6 p.m. until all gone. Menu: Turkey with Dressing, Yams, Green Beans, Dessert and Drink. Nov. 10

When Are We Going Home Ministry’s Riding High Horsemanship program will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Break N Free camp at 4719 NE CR 1040 in Rice. This is a free riding program for medically challenged, disabled and special needs children 0-21 and their immediate siblings. Lunch is included. Volunteers are available for front and side walking as well as a ramp for wheelchairs. Please RSVP for lunch to wawahn@gmail.com.



The House of Refuge will be at Van’s Jewelers displaying the quilts that are being raffled off on Dec. 17, 2012. The tickets are $10 each, and all proceeds go toward the operations of the House of Refuge. For more information call (903) 874-3421.



Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice, 625 N. Main St., invites you to attend its annual memorial service. It will be held at 2 p.m. at Martin Hall at The First United Methodist Church on West Third Ave. and 15th St. If you or someone you know has experienced the death of a loved one in the past, you are invited to join in this time of remembrance.



The Navarro County Genealogy Society will meet at 10 a.m. for its quarterly meeting. After a business meeting to elect officers a program on cemeteries will be presented by Norman and Dana Stubbs. Information on local Navarro County Cemeteries will be shared in the program along with important landmarks in the area to aid in genealogy research. A light lunch will be served followed by an outing to a nearby cemetery for a demonstration on how to locate unmarked graves by way of “grave witching/dowsing.” If you would like to take part in this activity please bring a pair of brass or metal clothes hangers to the meeting. Nov. 13

Navarro Regional Hospital will hold a Diabetes Prevention Workshop once monthly for people with pre-diabetes or at risk for diabetes. These classese will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. The Diabetes Self-Management Comprehensive Program is an ongoing class for patients diagnosed with diabetes. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Nov. 15-18



The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present the final show of the 2012 season with the opening of Jerry Herman’s MAME.  The large cast with Cristin Denbow in the title role is directed by David Timmerman and assisted  by Todd Jones. MAME, based on the novel by Patrick Dennis and the play “Auntie Mame” by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, will delight and entertain audiences with the captivating story and music.  Show dates are: Nov. 15-16 & 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. The show will be presented at the Palace Theatre at 112 W 6th Avenue. Nov. 26

The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (1 blk W of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by senior citizens and veterans.



Dec. 1

Authors of "Out of Our Minds," an anthology of the North Texas  Professional Writers Association, edited by local writer Janet Jacobs, will be signing copies of their book from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Hasting's in Waxahachie, 791 North Highway 77.



The annual Corsicana Christmas Parade will begin at 6 p.m. downtown.



Navarro County Toy Run will leave the VFW, 4609 W. Hwy 31 at 11 a.m. for a scenic country ride that ends up back at the VFW. Cars, bikes and clubs all welcome!     The Corsicana City Council will swear in the new city attorney, and consider requests for money from local charities when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of the Government Center, 200 N. 12th St. The new city attorney will be Kerri Anderson Donica. She ran unopposed for the position, along with Municipal Judge Mike Russell.

    People who were missing in the wake of the destructive tornadoes in North Texas have been found safe, officials said Friday, but they didn't indicate when residents of one hard-hit neighborhood will be allowed to return to survey damage to their homes.

    The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
