The Angus Water Supply board agreed to allow Betty McCain to pay off her $900 water bill at $50 a month, according to McCain.
“I told them I didn’t mind paying for the repairs, the operator and the clamps and such, but they wouldn’t go for that. They made me pay the $900 for the unmetered water.”
McCain’s fight with the water board became a community-wide issue when her water was cut off for three weeks in December. McCain is 80.
It will take her a year and a half to pay out the bill.
The water leak was the result of some fence construction in her pasture, which hit an unmarked water line. It was the second time a water line had been struck in her pasture in two years. The board estimated that 156,000 gallons of water spilled out. This time, McCain dug in her heels and said she wouldn’t pay, and they cut off her water.
It was turned on again just before Christmas, and Monday’s water board meeting may have ended the issue.
“I’m going to pay $50 a month on it,” McCain said. “I’m just ready for it to be over with.”

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.

Bowie School involves all in ACS Recess Relay
For the third straight year, Bowie students and faculty have “Teamed Up to Fight Cancer” — and each team was armed with a catchy name, a sports theme, and its own banner and sporty accessories. Bowie Elementary School is an important part of the success of American Cancer Society’s Navarro County Relay for Life. This year, they raised $4,100.52 for cancer research, bringing their three-year total to over $15,000.
