Pastor Dave Alexander is starting a new church in Retreat, with the first service to be at 10 a.m. Jan. 6 at the Retreat City Hall on FM 709. Currently non-denominational, Alexander himself was reared as a Baptist so the message will reflect that background. Everyone is invited and welcome to come worship in this new congregation as it forms. Bring your Bible.
The annual First Baptist Church Living Christmas Tree will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings at the church at 510 W. Collin Street in Corsicana. The Living Christmas Tree consists of a towering pyramid-shaped structure in which the Celebration Choir members are perched as they sing Christmas carols and spiritual songs. The performances are free and open to everyone in the community. The doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be a “pre-tree” at 6:30 p.m. with the actual tree starting at 7 p.m. No tickets are required.
The first Living Christmas Tree at First Baptist was performed in 1985, and the choir has seldom missed a year in putting on the event.
A Charity Benefit Musical to benefit the Navarro County Family Services and the Navarro County Food Pantry will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Lifeline Fellowship Family Church, 5301 W. Hwy 31. Please come and support the organizations that help many families with food, clothing, medicine and spiritual guidance. Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County, located at 4495 W. State Hwy. 22, invites all to join us for our Sunday Church Services starting at 10 a.m. We have nursery for babies through age 2 years and activities for 3 and 4 year olds. Children ages 5 through 12 are invited to meet in the children’s building for Children’s Church. Wesley United Methodist Church is calling all third, fourth and fifth graders to come GROW! Registration for Noah’s Kids continues for its new after-school program at Wesley United Methodist Church that begins from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 The after-school program will meet once a week this spring, but twice a week in the fall. Children will learn how to care for God’s good creation by learning to grow fruits and vegetables in organic gardens as well as other projects concerning farm animals. All tools and supplies are provided. The food grown by the children will be taken home for the consumption of their families. City proposes route changes for Clean-Up Day
For more than 10 years, Navarro County and the City of Corsicana have co-hosted a county-wide clean-up day. For most residents, it means an opportunity to take their bulk trash to the city’s landfill for free.

City to consider rules for airport, swear in new attorney
The Corsicana City Council will swear in the new city attorney, and consider requests for money from local charities when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of the Government Center, 200 N. 12th St. The new city attorney will be Kerri Anderson Donica. She ran unopposed for the position, along with Municipal Judge Mike Russell.

CISD to hire architects for new campus
The Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees will consider selecting an architectural firm for the new middle school when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Monday, 601 North 13th Street.

A former plumbing supply shop that has since become nothing more than one wall and one partial wall, is going to become the latest city park in Corsicana.

They’re different as daylight and dark — she loves soccer and history, he loves math and science. She hails from Flower Mound, he from Malaysia. She is bubbly, outgoing and excited; he is a bit shy, somewhat reserved.

Texas residents missing after tornadoes found safe
People who were missing in the wake of the destructive tornadoes in North Texas have been found safe, officials said Friday, but they didn't indicate when residents of one hard-hit neighborhood will be allowed to return to survey damage to their homes.

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
