Corsicana —
Corsicana Police Department officers, led by Captain Nori Rhodes, along with Agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, conducted a joint investigation Friday night into the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors in Corsicana.
Undercover officers and minors entered 22 establishments in Corsicana. Out of those 22 establishments, 16 complied with the state laws and did not sell an alcoholic beverage to a minor. This is a 73 percent compliance rate, which is a lower compliance percentage than recent undercover operations. Captain Nori Rhodes stated these 16 establishments should be commended on their actions.
Six establishments had employees that sold an alcoholic beverage to a minor. Out of those six, all six establishments did check the minor’s identification, which clearly showed that they were under the age of 21. Five adults were placed into custody and transported to the NCSO Jail. One adult will be served with an arrest warrant at a later date. Selling alcohol to a minor is a Class A misdemeanor. The six establishments may also face administrative sanctions from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
Chief Randy Bratton advised the overtime spent to conduct the enforcement operation will be reimbursed to the City as part of an Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Block Grant that the police department received earlier this year. The grant is administered through the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Chief Bratton noted that additional enforcement operations will be conducted in the future to ensure compliance with state beverage laws and to help keep the community safe.

But for Dana Griffin, it will mark the end of his 30-year career teaching ag science at Corsicana High School, the only job he’s had since graduating from college.
Though he is excited about his new horizons, this day will most likely be bittersweet, as 30 years of animals, ag projects, and kids — it’s always been about the kids — draws to a close. -
