Corsicana —
The Navarro County Commissioners Court is expected to make appointments for seven positions on the Navarro County Lake Planning and Zoning Commission.
Action on two appointments was tabled at the Feb. 26 commissioners meeting, after lake area resident Phil Krejci spoke out in opposition to the re-appointment of P&Z chairman Terry Jacobson, and a review of the procedures calling for each commissioner to appoint one member from his own precinct, and the county judge nominate three “at large positions.” Only Jacobson and vice-chair Barbara Moe were on the Feb. 26 agenda.
A group calling itself “Citizens to Improve Navarro County,” or CINC PAC, sent an email to the four commissioners and County Judge H.M. Davenport Jr. this week submitting a list of names they want considered as candidates for Davenport’s three “at-large” positions — all of them lake-area residents, the group said.
The list of names submitted included Glenda Burres, Keith Burres, Michael Evans, Sue Ferguson, Laura Frankos, Wayne Garrett, Phil Krejci, Michael Quilling and Margie Taylor. Quilling, Garrett, Krejci and Taylor are also identified in the email as members of the group making the submission.
In the email, the group said “having more individuals on the P&Z who actually live within the jurisdiction being governed by the zoning ordinance is of utmost importance.”
The email also said there was no requirement that the neither the chairman nor the members of the Lake P&Z be attorneys, although the group said there were “several attorneys” on the list of potential candidates it submitted.
Other items on the Monday agenda include a request for funding an additional truck for the Barry VFD; a bridge project; salvage request; request by Sheriff Elmer Tanner to use jail inmate labor for the Youth Expo; a public hearing and resolution updating the Navarro County On-site sewage facility order; and a resolution “expressing intent to finance expenditures to be incurred,” involving expenses of the proposed courthouse restoration project.
A closed session is scheduled at the end of the agenda to discuss personnel. Any action will follow in open session.
An open forum time is scheduled at the beginning of each commissioners meeting for members of the public wishing to address the commissioners.

The Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees will consider selecting an architectural firm for the new middle school when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Monday, 601 North 13th Street.

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
