NAVARRO COLLEGE MEETING BRIEFS
Tax on property
in transit approved
A resolution preserving the college’s authority to tax personal property in transit was approved Thursday. Recent state legislation dictated the action by trustees in order to be able to tax certain property “in transit.” The move could mean as much as $150,000 in additional tax revenue to the college, according to college officials. The Corsicana City Council recently adopted a similar ordinance.
Changes to policy
manuals approved
Trustees approved the adoption of policy manual changes for the Medical Laboratory Technology and Occupational Therapy Assistant programs on first reading. A number of changes and clarifications regarding re-enrollment, testing procedures, privacy issues, and drug and criminal background checks were made in the manuals.
Financial statements approved
Trustees approved $1.7 million in budget amendments on the recommendation of Darrell Raines, vice-president of finance and administration. The amended budget for the 2007-08 year stands at $66,433,677.
Football program recognized
The coaching staff of the Navarro College Bulldog football team was recognized by trustees during the meeting. The team captured the Southwest Junior College Football Conference championship last weekend. The Bulldogs will play in the Pilgrim’s Pride Bowl at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 in Mount Pleasant, a game that will be televised regionally on Fox Sports Southwest.
Gibson Hall, laundry
additions tabled
A presentation on a proposal to build an addition to Gibson Hall and the construction of a new student laundry facility were tabled. Dr. Richard Sanchez, college district president, asked trustees for permission to construct the to projects in October. Trustees asked for more information from the college architect, which was not available for Thursday’s meeting.
Personnel report approved
Hired during October, 2007 were Courtney Anderson, assistant softball coach and instructor; Nancy Hughes, administrative assistant-benefits coordinator. Resignations included Kelly Calloway, administrative assistant; Shirley Lima, human resources specialist; Lyndsey Mae Raymond, administrative assistant; Martha Taylor, library assistant. Terminated in October, 2007 was Plez Atkins, assistant football coach and instructor.

Voter registration cards may be turned in at the voting office in the basement of the Navarro County courthouse. -
