Love Chapel Baptist Church will host a benefit service for the four children of LaKisha Jackson Allen, who passed away April 30. The benefit will be held at 7 p.m. June 6 at Straight Way Missionary Baptist Church, 400 S. 15th St., where Alvin E. Smith is pastor and who will be the speaker for the evening. Abundant Life Fellowship, 3900 Farm-to-Market Road 744, will have a yard sale fund-raiser beginning at 7 a.m. June 6. There will also be food, gospel music and fellowship.



Cornerstone Baptist Church, 801 N. 13th St., invites preschool through sixth grade children to “Crocodile Dock: Where Fearless Kids Shine God’s Light” from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. June 8-12.

Kids will jump into bayou fun at “Crocodile Dock” where they will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into yummy treats, experience electrifying Bible adventures, collect Bible memory buddies to remind them of God’s word, and create Bible point crafts they’ll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God sightings. Each day will conclude at “Firefly Finale” — a celebration that will get everyone involved in living what they’ve learned. Family members and friends are encouraged to join in daily for this special time at 8:30 p.m.

Kids at “Crocodile Dock” will join nearly a million children sharing God’s love in a hands-on mission project, helping disaster victims in North America.

At 11 a.m. June 7, the church will have a great “kickoff” day with children’s church at 11 a.m. featuring a puppet performance and Bible learning games. The children are invited for a hamburger and homemade ice cream swim party from 5 to 7 p.m. Meet at the church, ready to swim.

First United Methodist Church of Corsicana, 320 N. 15th St., invites you to join the youth of the church in helping keep the environment clean and safe for future generations by recycling your old cell phones and computer ink cartridges. These items will be shipped to the Think Recycle Program where they will be recycled and reused. Recycling containers are located in three places within the church. The containers are inside each outside door on the parking lot side of the building. You may also collect at your place of business and call (903) 874-5656 when you have a full box to be picked up. The money raised from this project will be used for mission trips and other youth activities.



Harmony Baptist Church, 400 E. 12th Ave., will hold Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 8-12. The theme will be “Heroes of the Faith.” Classes will range from preschool to adult. Sister Shirley Colbert and Sister Annie Solomon are VBS directors and Bishop John Baker is pastor.



House of Refuge Church of God in Christ, 413 Farm-to-Market Road 709, Dawson, where Elder Paul E. Puckett is pastor, will have an outreach ministry giveaway from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at G. Kay’s Grocery Store, State Highway 31, Dawson. The church invites you to come worship and lift up the name of the Lord during its spring revival at 7:30 p.m. June 8-12. Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1700 S. Business 45, where Elder Joseph Johnson Sr. serves as pastor and Charlene Johnson is first lady, will celebrate the 39th church anniversary at 3:30 p.m. June 7.

Guest churches will be Griffin Chapel, Superintendent E.L. Baptist; Open Door, Pastor David Thompson; Crossway, Pastor David Houston; and Taylor Memorial, Pastor Floyd Taylor and Elder Willie Brown, assistant pastor. The speaker will be Pastor Lee James Keeton from Word of Life. You are invited to help celebrate 39 years of service.



Kerens Missionary Baptist Church will have revival services at 7:30 p.m. June 14-21. Evangelist for these services will be the Rev. Grady Cashion, pastor of First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove. Kerens Missionary Baptist Church appreciates those who have been visiting and worshipping in services. An invitation is extended to all in the Kerens area and beyond to come and participate in revival services. Regular Sunday services are 10 a.m. for Sunday school and 11 a.m. for worship. Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County, 4495 W. State Highway 22, invites you to join in at 10 a.m. each Sunday for worship. On June 7, the church will have a new members class after the morning worship service for those wishing to join the cowboy church. Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will meet at 6:45 a.m. June 10 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St. This meeting is open to all men in the community. Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2105 E. Jones Ave., will have Vacation Bible School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 8-12. Navarro County Ministers’ Wives will have its WOW Revival 2009 at 7 p.m. June 8-10 at Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1700 S. Business 45, where Elder Joseph Johnson Sr. serves as pastor. The theme will be “Living by Faith, Walking in the Spirit, and Standing on God’s Promises.” Messengers will be Minister Sharron D. Wilson of Love Chapel Baptist Church, where David E. Wilson is pastor; Evangelist Laronda Watson of Straight Way Missionary Baptist Church, where Alvin E. Smith is pastor; and Elder Valorie Horn of Taylor Memorial Church of God in Christ, where Floyd G. Taylor is pastor. Come expecting to receive your blessing from the Lord. Sister Ethel Baptist serves as president.



Navarro Mills Baptist Church will have a summer kick-off jamboree beginning at 4 p.m. June 6 with a jump house for the kids, hot dogs and games. You can also register your children for Vacation Bible School, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 15-19. The theme will be “Boomerang Express.”

At the jamboree, you can come see a collection of classic cars, hot rods, and modified trucks. At 7 p.m. the music will begin with an outdoor gospel jam session with Russ Murphy from Nashville, Tenn., along with members from Glory Bound, Life Ministry singers and several other guests. The church will also be collecting canned goods for the food pantry located at the church. Canned meat would be appreciated. Navarro Mills Baptist Church is located at Navarro Mills Lake, approximately 14 miles west of Corsicana on Farm-to-Market Road 667, one mile from State Highway 31.



New Bethel Baptist Church in Goodlow will have its annual women’s day at 3:30 p.m. June 7. Guests will be Second Mission Baptist Church and Pastor Larry Polk Sr. All are welcome to come and celebrate Jesus in this occasion.



Open Bible study and gospel singing is held every Thursday at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave., Corsicana. There is no cost to attend. Singing with Patrick and Nancy McCurrin on guitars and Virginia Terry on piano is held from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Bible study is held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with Peggy Smith as the teacher of this class. Roane Church, 5012 Farm-to-Market Road 3041 (Roane Road), will have a free give-away from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through June. There will be clothes, toys and various items.



Taylor’s Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1624 G.W. Jackson Ave., where Elder Floyd G. Taylor is senior pastor and Helen Taylor is first lady, will have a women’s conference, sponsored by the church’s women’s ministry, at 9 a.m. June 13 at Lifeline Fellowship Family Church, 5301 W. State Highway 31, and at 4 p.m. June 14 at Taylor’s Memorial. The theme will be “The Power of Praise Brings Victory” from Psalm 22:23-24. The conference speakers will be Renee Hornbuckle, pastor of Agape Christian Fellowship of Arlington, on June 13; and Evalyn Sowells, co-pastor of Eastside Church of God in Christ in Garland, on June 14. Thomas Chapel Church in Winkler will have its cemetery program at 3:30 p.m. June 14. Guest speakers will be Pastor Earnest Betts Jr. of New Bethel Baptist Church in Goodlow, Pastor Tas Betts of Taylor Chapel in Wortham, and Pastor Johnny Moss. Other guests will include The Spiritual Disciples of Dallas.

    It was an evening of dancing, humor and dining Thursday night at the 94th Annual Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce banquet held at the new I.O.O.F. Events Center. According to Executive Director Paul Hooper, 520 people were at the event Thursday, making it the largest banquet in recent history.
