The 32nd Annual Piecemakers’ Quilt Show will take place at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W. Sixth Ave. Admission is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. A quilt will be raffled off as part of the annual show. Oct. 27

When Are We Going Home Ministry will hold its annual concert with Cheryl Dunn appearing at the New Beginnings Family Fellowship in Blooming Grove at 5:30 p.m.



The Chatanooga Reunion will be held at Mildred Baptist Church from 3 to 7 p.m. All former Chatanooga Glass employees are encouraged to attend. Any donations of auction items will be appreciated. The Corsicana Newcomers' Club will celebrate its 25th Anniversary with a dinner/dance and auction at the Corsicana Country Club from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This group welcomes all new Corsicana area residents to acquaint them with their neighbors and to foster an interest in the social and civic affairs of the community.  Boasting one of its largest memberships ever, this Club is raising funds to support community charities  and this event will top off our year. Everyone is invited to make a reservation and come bid on such fantastic items as a guided fishing trip, small kitchen appliances, a two-man bird shoot, hand-made quilts and a YMCA membership plus many other items!  Don your dancing shoes and Sunday best attire and join us for a fun-filled celebration. First United Methodist Church, Wortham will have its Annual Fall Festival and Barbecue at 5 p.m. Barbecue is served from 5 to 7 p.m., and a quilt raffle will be held with $1 tickets, or six for $5. There will also be a cake auction.



Gospel Jubilee will be held at Martins Music Hall, 102 S. Beaton, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The show begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 each. Featured artist is Bella Voce (beautiful voice), Janet, Joanna and Cathy, as well as Eternal River Band and Carolyn Cobb. The regularly featured Heavenly Highways Band comprised of Elias Lowe, Gary Poe, and Jody Thomas will appear as well.



VFW Post 3366 will have its regular,end of the month, Saturday night dance on October 27th. Heart of Texas Road Gang will be providing the best in country music. Dance will be from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight in the ballroom. There is no cover charge but donations will be accepted to help with band cost. Come out and enjoy good dance music!!



Union High Volunteer Fire Department, 6555 FM 638, Dawson, will hold a Fundraiser supper and auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. Chili, beans and dessert will be served, and all proceeds from the auction benefit the operation of the Union High VFD. Politicians are welcome to come and speak.



Barry Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold a barbecue fundraiser to raise funds for the new station. It will be 5 to 7 p.m. at Barry Methodist Church, FM 1126 and Hwy 22. On the menu is brisket, sausage, chicken, beans, potato salad and desserts, all homemade. The American Legion will host a Halloween Party on October 27th at the American Legion Post 22, located at 632 North Beaton.  First, Second and Third Place prizes will be given away to the top three best costumes.



The American Legion Auxiliary will meet on November 7, 2012 at the post.  All members are encouraged to attend, and those interested in joining are also welcome.

First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin, will host Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28. It is free, there will be lots of candy and games, with a live band. There will be lots of fun! Everyone welcome!

      The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (1 blk W of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by senior citizens and veterans.

The Navarro County Republican Women welcome Rafael Cruz, Father of Ted Cruz, as the special Guest Speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at The Remington, 122 West Third Avenue, Corsicana.  Social hour begins at 11:30 a.m. Lunch and meeting 12 Noon to 1 p.m.  Everyone is invited.  No RSVP is necessary. Lunch is $7 at the door. Mr. Cruz spoke at the U.S. Senate Forum held by the Navarro County Republican Women in April 2012, and he is a powerful and inspirational speaker. We will also be discussing this most important election season and how we can participate.  We must all vote and help encourage others to vote!!

The Kerens Ex-Students Association (KESA) will host a Halloween Movie Night for youngsters 12 and under from 6 to 8 p.m.



Kinsloe House is hosting “Games Day” at 10:30 a.m. for bridge and 11 a.m. for Scrabble. All members interested in playing bridge, Scrabble, and other games are invited to attend. Lynda Green is the hostess for the October Games day. If you would like to come, have a good lunch, play your favorite game, and visit you are welcome to attend.



Nov. 1

American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 320 N.15th in Corsicana, Texas.



Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Navarro County Deputy Sheriff Scott Wiley. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

Nov. 3

Navarro County NAACP presents the Fifth Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, 1114 E. Sixth Ave., Corsicana at 7 p.m. at the MLK Center. The theme is “Your power, your vote, your decision.” Speaker will be Dr. Jamal Randy Allen Rasheed, Ph.D. The branch will also be honoring Mr. Leonard and Glynda Dixon, and two special families of the community. Tickets are $20. Dinner will be served.



Northland Communications is proud to present Movie Night on the Green at 6:30 p.m. There will be a showing of Madagascar 3 at Fullerton-Garrity Park Amphitheater, with free popcorn and drinks. Admission is free — simply bring friends and family, blanket or lawn chair, and canned food for the Food Pantry.



Nov. 6

The Southern Pacific Sunbeam Club will meet at IHOP in Ennis. This will be another day of food, fun and fellowship while plans are discussed for the upcoming holiday activities. The whistle will blow at 11:30 a.m. for all railroaders, both active and retired, for relatives and friends of railroaders, and those who love a train.



The Corsicana Rotary Club will celebrate election day with a reception from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at The Cook Center. All candidates are invited to the reception tent near the Air Force Fighter. The chili is from a winning contest recipe and the Rotarians will greet you with open arms.

Nov. 8

A one day Driver Safety Program will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Navarro Regional Hospital located at 3210 W. Highway 22 in Corsicana. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older, but is open to anyone. The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. All veterans and their spouses can take the course free. Attendees may qualify for reductions in auto-mobile insurance premiums for three years upon completion of the course. When Are We Going Home Ministry’s Riding High Horsemanship program will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Break N Free camp at 4719 NE CR 1040 in Rice. This is a free riding program for medically challenged, disabled and special needs children 0-21 and their immediate siblings. Lunch is included. Navarro Regional Hospital will hold a Diabetes Prevention Workshop once monthly for people with pre-diabetes or at risk for diabetes. These classese will be held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. The Diabetes Self-Management Comprehensive Program is an ongoing class for patients diagnosed with diabetes. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present the final show of the 2012 season with the opening of Jerry Herman’s MAME.  The large cast with Cristin Denbow in the title role is directed by David Timmerman and assisted  by Todd Jones. MAME, based on the novel by Patrick Dennis and the play “Auntie Mame” by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, will delight and entertain audiences with the captivating story and music.  Show dates are: Nov. 15-16 & 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. The show will be presented at the Palace Theatre at 112 W 6th Avenue.
