Corsicana —
Ghouls, goblins and glitz showed up downtown Wednesday afternoon for what is becoming one of the most popular events of the year.
Downtown Trick-or-Treat kicked off with games and treats on the Beaton Street sidewalk with local business owners joining in on the fun by handing out treat and trinkets. Grace Community operated a barrel train and bounce house on Fourth Avenue.
Corsicana Parks and Recreation hosted the “Beaton Street Boo Ride” that dropped off and picked up on Fifth Avenue, at the corner of Beaton. The haunted hay ride was driven by director Sharla Allen and featured scares along the way including a Texas Chainsaw Massacre character, two wraiths near the oil field worker statue and a firefighter near Martin’s Music Hall.
Collin Street at Beaton was the site of a costume contest, sponsored by Wally’s Party Factory.
“It was started by store manager Christy Melton and has grown every year,” explained Regional Marketing Coordinator Kristi George. “It works well because Corsicana has a great downtown area and the business owners get involved. It nice that the kids have a safe place to Trick-or-Treat, I love it here it’s a great community.”
The Wally’s Halloween Costume Contest first prize winners were Keller Kinkade in the 0 to 3 year old age group, Epic Flowers in the 4 to 8 year old age group and Kolby Kinkade in the 9 to 12 year old age group.
“My costume is a headless guy in a jar,” first place winner Epic Flowers said. “My Nana (Deborah Flowers) thought of the idea and helped me make it from scratch. The jar originally contained cheese balls.”

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
