VFW Post 3366 will host karaoke with Country Sue! Karaoke starts at 8pm and lasts until 11:45 p.m. There is no cover charge. Come out, see old friends and make new ones!
Jan. 28
VFW Post 3366 will have a dance in the Grand Ballroom. Traditional country music will be provided by The Texas Style Band featuring Butch and David Giddens. No cover charge but donations will be accepted to help pay for the band. Dance hours are 8 till 12!!!
Feb. 10
American Legion Post 22 will be open to the public for a night with Justin Hunter. He will entertain with classic to current country music. Advance tickets are available for $8. José Antonio Navarro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, will hold a meeting to lay a wreath at the statue of José Antonio Navarro on the anniversary of his birth, Monday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Navarro County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend.

Animal shelter once again dominates council meeting
The animal-rights activists came back to the Corsicana City Council to ask for a new animal shelter again Tuesday when the council met in regular session.
The issue of building a new shelter was not on the agenda, so no council members spoke to the issue. -
Tiger Proud
Teachers, volunteers and students were all honored Monday as the Corsicana Independent School District Board of Trustees handed out the district’s “C Awards” for the month.

Jury finds Maxwell guilty of kidnapping
A Parker County jury found Jeffrey Allan Maxwell guilty Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his former Whitt neighbor.
After about 45 minutes of deliberation Tuesday afternoon, the six-man, six-woman jury returned to the courtroom shortly after 5 p.m. and delivered verdicts of guilty on all charges, including aggravated kidnapping and two charges of aggravated sexual assault. -
‘Ashes to go’
It is called “ashes to go” and the unusual Ash Wednesday service is spreading among Episcopal churches across the country.
Started five years ago in St. Louis, Mo., by Rev. Teresa K. M. Danieley at a roadway intersection, Episcopalian clergy smudge the sign of the cross on the forehead of anyone who stops and cares to receive the customary religious symbol for the start of Lent. -
NC Board holding another closed session
The Navarro College Board of Trustees has scheduled a 1 p.m. meeting Wednesday in the President’s Dining Room of the Waller Dining Hall.

The Navarro County NAACP Sixth Annual Community Health Fair scheduled for Feb. 25 has been rescheduled.

Tippin, Diffie and Kershaw headed to Corsicana
Three legends of country music will be performing in a special concert on March 30 at the Palace Theatre in Corsicana.
Aaron Tippin, Joe Diffie, and Sammy Kershaw will be taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. as part of their Roots and Boots Tour. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and prices range from $40 to $55. -
City council to meet Tuesday
The Corsicana City Council will renew the lease agreement with the Corsicana Youth Baseball, and will consider approving a taxi cab permit application for a group wanting to transport disabled children.
