Thompson to seek second term as DA
Navarro County District Attorney R. Lowell Thompson is the latest office holder to announce to the Daily Sun his plans to seek a second term in office.
Thompson said he will run in the March 2010 Democratic primary. Official filing for the primary elections begins Dec. 3.
“Having grown up in Navarro County, it has been an honor serving the last three years as District Attorney,” Thompson said. “I am proud of the prosecutors and staff I have in place, and look forward to the future.”
Thompson was first elected to the post in 2006, defeating one-term incumbent Steve Keathley. Prior to taking top prosecutor’s job in 2006, Thompson served as an assistant district attorney under Pat Batchelor from 1997 to 2001. In 2001, Thompson became municipal judge for the City of Corsicana, a post he held until being elected county district attorney.
Thompson is a 1988 graduate of Corsicana High School, where he played football. He also graduated from Navarro College, Baylor, and Texas Tech Law School.
Thompson, 39, and wife Brandy have two children — daughter Kieley, 9, and son Eli, 3. Brandy Thompson, a graduate of Navarro College and Sam Houston State University, is a math teacher at Corsicana High School. The family attends Northside Baptist Church.
“Navarro County is my home, it is my family’s home and I care about it,” Thompson said. “I am proud of the accomplishments of my office during my first term ... I have a vested interest in working hard for my family and yours.”
