Corsicana — Bethlehem Baptist Church, 409 N. Third St., Corsicana presents “The Sound of Freedom,” a service to celebrate Black History Month, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. Evangelist Valorie Horn of Taylor Memorial COGIC is the guest speaker. Horn was born and raised in the small town of Corsicana, and spent her formative years at only two churches, Love Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (until the age of 11) and the family later moved its membership to the Taylor’s Memorial Church of God in Christ. Elder Horn is married to Minister Clarence Horn. They have been married 27 years and have a beautiful daughter, Brittany, and handsome son, Taylor. She has lived in Corsicana all her life. Her guiding verse is Philippians 3:14; “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Horn realizes she can do all things through Christ who gives her strength.  The Bethlehem family invites everyone to join their congregation in celebrating this month in Black History. Believers Outreach Ministries will hold a Tea Brunch to celebrate Black History Month from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at 3301 W. Hwy 31. The speaker will be Pastor Dot Clark of Believers Christian Cathedral in Hillsboro, and introducing Psalmist Cheryl Evans. Grace Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church invites the public to join them in celebrating their Women's Day Annual, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Avis Washington of the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Hubbard. The theme for this program will be “A Virtuous Woman” from Proverbs 31:10-31. Mildred Baptist Church will host a gospel singing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. The music group, No Other Way, from the Fort Worth area will present the concert. You are cordially invited to attend. The concert is free, but a love offering will be received. Also, CDs of the group will be available for purchase. Mildred Baptist Church is located on Highway 287 about five miles from the intersection of I-45 and U.S. Hwy 287 South.

Missionary Baptist Church, 405 S. 15th Street in Corsicana is growing, Spiritually aware and full of wonderful fellowship. The church has services each Sunday beginning at 9:45 a.m. for Sunday School with classes for all age groups. The Sunday Worship services begin at 10:50 a.m. and 4 p.m. Baptism of one candidate will immediately follow this week's Evening Worship. Wednesday evening Adult Bible Study and Youth Bible Study with refreshments and physical activities commence at 7 p.m. each week. These groups are conducted in very relaxed, welcoming settings. Harmony Baptist Church, 400 East 12th Avenue, Corsicana, will hold a pre-anniversary revival service at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 with Minister Bobby Dowell, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Ennis as the guest evangelist. The celebration will continue on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, with the 104th Church Anniversary and Old-Timers Day.  The members are asked to dress in old time attire all day.  In the 11:30 a.m. morning worship service, the youth department will make a black history presentation.  At 3:30 p.m., Ennis Mt. Bethel AME Church, 101 N. Fourth St. will sponsor its annual “Black History Program” with the focus on the Young People Dept. (YPD’ers) who will do readings, reciting poems, Christian rap and other activities. Please come out to encourage and support these young people who are working for the cause of Christ. Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County, located at 4495 W. Love Chapel Missionary Baptist Church located at 400 North Benton Street where David E. Wilson serves as Pastor and Sharron D. Wilson serves as Minister will have a special honor and recognition service to their Pastor, David E. Wilson at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013.  The theme for the occasion is: "Chosen To Change The Atmosphere" from the scripture text  II Timothy 4:2.  The spoken word will be brought by Bishop John Baker of the Harmony Baptist Church. Petty's Chapel Baptist Church, 1300 FM 3041, where Elvin Sikes serves as Pastor would like to invite everyone to our worship services. Wesley United Methodist Church has started its afterschool program “Noah’s Kids.” If you know a third, fourth or fifth grader who would benefit from Noah’s Kids, please call (903) 874-0718. The program will focus on how to care for God’s creation through Bible studies, crafts, gardening, and snacks will be provided. Noah’s Kids is every Tuesday from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m.



First Baptist Church announces the beginning of V.I.P.’s, designed to minister to Very Important People (children with special needs). FBC Corsicana believes everyone is created in God’s image and can relate to God, and that salvation is a gift that is not dependent on a certain level of intelligence or ability. If you have a child with special needs, you may bring him/her to Sunday School at 9:45 Sundays in the Fourth Floor Room E405 (purple door). Someone will be there to meet you, find out more information about your child and his/her needs, and match them up with a “buddy” (aide). From there, your child will be placed in an age-appropriate classroom with their buddy. There is a “purple room” for children who may need less stimulation for a time, or a medically-fragile child, or one who requires more individualized attention. During the contemporary worship service at 11 a.m., you may choose to take your child into worship service with you, or children with special needs may remain in the VIP Room on the Fourth Floor after Sunday School with adult special needs people. When Kidzpraise (Children’s Church) begins, the VIP students will transition down the hall to join that service with their “buddy” (aide). After the contemporary service ends, you may pick up your child from the Kidzpraise Room (Fourth floor Room E411). Kids (and adults) with special needs and their families are loved and welcome at FBC Corsicana!

Intercessors for Navarro County Men’s Prayer Breakfast will meet at 6:45 a.m. Wednesdays. After meeting at various local churches through the holidays, the men returned to the usual meeting place at Navarro College on Jan. 16. Grief Share, sponsored by Northside Baptist Church, meets from 5 to 7 p.m. each Sunday at the Fellowship Center on Forest Lane (across the street from Northside). This is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them. Each Grief Share session includes a video seminar and group discussion. Grief Share is a non-denominational group and features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time.
