American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12 noon to  5:30 p.m. Those in need of blood often include accident or trauma victims, premature babies, cancer patients, as well as people undergoing surgeries.  The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present “The Last Romance” opening Thursday, Jan. 26.  The first show of the 2012 Season is a wonderful heart-warming comedy by Joe diPietro featuring WLAC favorites Ron Motley, Debbie Hanks, Norma Russell and Randy Jones.  Production dates are Jan. 26 to 29, 31, Feb. 2 to 4. Richland Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual chili supper starting at 5 p.m. at the Fire Station/Civic Center on Main Street in Richland. Feb. 5

Mike Fossum, NASA astronaut and husband of the former Melanie London, will speak at 1 p.m. in the Great Hall of First United Methodist Church. Fossum will speak about his recent six-month stay aboard the International Space Station, where he served first as Flight Engineer and then as Commander. Prior to this flight, Mike had logged more than 636 hours in space, including more than 42 hours in six EVAs (spacewalks), as a mission specialist aboard space shuttle Discovery on STS-121 (July 4-17, 2006) and STS-124 (May 31-June 14, 2008). Mike is a retired Colonel from the USAF Reserves.

A “Reagan Day Dinner” will be held by the Republican Party of Navarro County at 6 p.m. at Napoli’s Pizza and Restaurant, 111 E. All candidates will have a few minutes to address the voters regarding their qualifications for the offices they are seeking. A short business meeting will be held following the program. The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center will hold a Valentine Sweethearts Recognition and Fundraiser from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the MLK Center. Special recognition will be given to couples together for 50 years and more. Performers at the event include The Gospel Five and others. There will be snacks and socializing. Donation is $5. Barry Methodist Church and Barry Friends of Youth will host a chili supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Barry Methodist Church. Navarro Regional Hospital Senior Circle will host the second in a three part series on Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s. The presentation will be 5 to 7 p.m. at the Navarro Regional Hospital Dining Room, with Kimberly Knight of the Greater Dallas Alzheimer’s Organization as the speaker. What are the differences between Alzheimer’s, other dementias and normal memory loss due to aging? This is a good overview for those who have concerns about memory loss or have had a diagnosis of dementia, as well as for those who want information about Alzheimer’s disease. Learn about the Alzheimer’s disease process, and the programs offered by the Greater Dallas Chapter for both the person with Alzheimer’s and the caregiver.

Navarro Regional Hospital Senior Circle will hold the last in a three part series about Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The program will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Navarro Regional Hospital Dining Room, and Kimberly Knight of the Greater Dallas Alzheimer’s Organization will be the speaker. Know the 10 signs:  Early Detection Matters, will be the topic of this program. Learn the warning signs that may be symptoms of Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.  Understand the importance of visiting your doctor early to rule out treatable conditions that may be the cause of these symptoms.  Early diagnosis helps with planning, treatment, the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and access to support from the Alzheimer's Association.
