Corsicana —
The Corsicana City Council voted to pay for health insurance for the municipal judge when the group met in regular session Tuesday. However, any other elected officials who want to participate in the city’s health insurance plan will have to pay the approximately $500 a month premium out of his or her own pocket.
“I agree with offering the insurance (to elected officials) but I disagree with the city paying for it,” said Precinct 1 Councilman Tom Wilson, who put forward the motion.
In addition, the city voted to allow city employees who have retired to partake in another insurance plan that’s specifically designed for those who aren’t yet 65, but who have retired from the city. Those employees are responsible for their own premiums, as well.
In other business, the council voted to give a slight variance to the American RV Park on its fencing requirement. The business on West Highway 31 will have to put a privacy fence on the backside of the property where it faces Park Row, but it won’t have to put up a fence along the highway side.
Faith Holt spoke during the public forum portion of the meeting, to point out that she was being ticketed for trash on a lot on G.W. Jackson Avenue. She told the council she doesn’t own the lot, and so she shouldn’t be penalized for the trash.
Also speaking during the public forum was Justin Valdez, who asked the council to consider investing in a city-wide Internet system, which would be an attraction for relocating businesses to the city.
The council met in executive session for about 45 minutes, but did not take any action after returning to open session.

The Corsicana City Council will swear in the new city attorney, and consider requests for money from local charities when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of the Government Center, 200 N. 12th St. The new city attorney will be Kerri Anderson Donica. She ran unopposed for the position, along with Municipal Judge Mike Russell.

The Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees will consider selecting an architectural firm for the new middle school when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Monday, 601 North 13th Street.

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
