Corsicana —
A total of 56.45 percent of Navarro County’s 27,368 registered voters turned out for Tuesday’s General Election, down from figures of four years ago.
Also down, the number of registered voters in the county — down 1,117 from 2008, and down 1,602 from 2004 figures from the Texas Secretary of State.
Navarro County voters cast a total of 7,940 “early” ballots, and 7,510 votes were cast on Election Day 2012 at the 30 polling places in the county, for a total of 15,450 votes cast. In 2008, 16,321 votes were cast in the General Election — a turnout of 57.30 percent; 2004 had 16,034 votes, a 55.35 percent.
Straight-party votes accounted for about half of the ballot totals — 5,858 Republicans and 2.835 Democrats voted a straight-party ticket. Republicans won every race in Navarro County voting, and with the election of Jason Grant and Elmer Tanner, every county office in Navarro County is now held by a Republican.
There were a number of county seats that were unopposed in voting Tuesday. Re-elected with no opposition to another term were District Judge James Lagomarsino, County Court-At-Law Judge Amanda Putman, District Clerk Josh Tackett, Pct. 3 County Commissioner David “Butch” Warren, Tax Assessor-Collector Russell Hudson, and constables Michael Davis in Pct. 1, David Foreman in Pct. 2, Nicole McMahan in Pct. 3, and Tommy Grant in Pct. 4.
Hudson garnered the most votes in Navarro County of any candidate in any race, with 11,551 votes received. Lagomarsino was second with 11,324. Both were unopposed.
Sheriff-elect Tanner received the most votes in a contested race in the county, garnering 11,152 votes to his opponent’s 3,823.
Tackett’s election Tuesday was for the unexpired term of former District Clerk Joe Hobbs, who resigned from office due to health reasons. Tackett was appointed by Lagomarsino to fill the office until the Tuesday election. Tackett will have to run again in 2014 for four-year term to get back into the election cycle for his office.
McMahan was named the Republican candidate for constable of Pct. 3 after incumbent Brad Butler resigned his post in August.
Putman was appointed to her post by the commissioners court in 2011, and was elected to a four-year term Tuesday.

City proposes route changes for Clean-Up Day
For more than 10 years, Navarro County and the City of Corsicana have co-hosted a county-wide clean-up day. For most residents, it means an opportunity to take their bulk trash to the city’s landfill for free.

City to consider rules for airport, swear in new attorney
The Corsicana City Council will swear in the new city attorney, and consider requests for money from local charities when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of the Government Center, 200 N. 12th St. The new city attorney will be Kerri Anderson Donica. She ran unopposed for the position, along with Municipal Judge Mike Russell.

The Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees will consider selecting an architectural firm for the new middle school when the group meets in regular session at 6 p.m. Monday, 601 North 13th Street.

People who were missing in the wake of the destructive tornadoes in North Texas have been found safe, officials said Friday, but they didn't indicate when residents of one hard-hit neighborhood will be allowed to return to survey damage to their homes.

Police department open house Tuesday
The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
