Corsicana —
A hearing regarding the funeral home licenses of Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home and funeral directors William Roughton and Billy Roughton II, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Austin before State Office of Administrative Hearings Judge M. O’Malley, according to the docket posted on the SOAH Website.
The court has set aside two days to hear testimony in the case. The hearings will take place on the fourth floor in the William P. Clements Building, at the corner of Lavaca and 15th streets in Austin.
The hearing is an appeal of a 2008 recommendation by the Texas Funeral Services Commission, which at the time sought some $100,000 in fines and penalties, accusing the Roughtons of selling prepaid funeral plans without a permit, and not using a trust account or insurance company.

Baseball complex building bid awarded

The Dawson Garden Club has chosen the home of Melanie Dotson at 900 N. Fullerton Ave. as the Yard of the Month for May. The lawns, both back and front, are beautifully manicured.
