Oliver Albritton passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Baylor Hospital surrounded by friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; his children, Mike, Julie, John and Ellen; and his grandchildren, Maggie, Ben, Caleb, Matt, and Anne; and other beloved family members and many friends.
Oliver was born in Corsicana to Mary and O.L. Albritton and lived there his entire life. He was a rancher and banker as well as a community leader. He graduated from Corsicana High School where he played football. He went to SMU where he earned his BA and continued on to Stanford University to receive his MBA.
His passions were Navarro College where he served as President of the Board, the Navarro College Foundation where he also served as President, the Navarro Community Foundation, the Caston Scholarship Board, and the Corsicana Industrial Recruiting. As trustee at the old First National Bank, he set up many of the charitable trusts which have helped numerous people and groups in Navarro County.
He was responsible for raising money and for selecting scholarship recipients to Navarro College and other universities. While on the Industrial Recruitment Team, he was responsible for the acquisition of Guardian Industries, Russell Stover Candies and many of the other industries in Navarro County. He raised money for the additions to the Cook Center and the soon to be Hunter-Gatherers of the Blackland Prairies exhibit. Throughout his lifetime he received numerous awards, including the Art Keeney Award and the Tom White Community Service Award. He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He was a family man, story teller, a hunter, fisherman, a sports fan, and a person dedicated to helping others.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at 1204 Lexington Square.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Navarro College Cook Center.
The family requests that memorial be to the Navarro College Foundation or the charity of your choice.
