Johnny Wayne Rhodes, 78, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at Navarro Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1934 to Charlie Ross Rhodes, Jr. and Edith Mahone Rhodes in Cryer Creek, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Ross Rhodes, Jr. and Edith Mahone Rhodes; brother, Charlie Jr. Rhodes; sisters, Carol Reed and Dora Stough.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jo Ann Taylor Rhodes; children, Garry Wayne Rhodes and wife, Pam of Corsicana and Leesa Rhodes Ward and husband, Kyle of Benton, La. Johnny is also survived by grandchildren, Johanna Rhodes of Corsicana, and Taylor, Annalee, and Luke Ward of Benton, La.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a deacon at First Baptist Church in Corsicana and a dedicated Christian. He was often found drinking coffee and enjoying fellowship with his friends at various coffee spots in town. Johnny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent most of his life as a general contractor. He and Garry shared the love of farming together.
Johnny was a beloved family man. His family was the joy of his life and he loved taking care of them. When asked what Johnny did, Johanna replied he did “everything.” He loved his family with all his heart and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Johnny was a sweet, quiet spirit.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Corsicana with Dr. Danny Reeves officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Marx, Chuck Burns, Bill Crawford, Elmer Tanner, Larry Holloway and Wayne Bonner. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Johnson, Bill Carmack, and Roy Ragsdale.
