Richard (Dick) James Sr. was born on May 13, 1921 in Carbondale, Kansas and departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at Searcy Healthcare.
He was preceded in death by his son Richard, Jr., his parents Preston and Iola James, sister Margie Robb, and brother David James.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances; daughter Lisa Ritchie (Bob) of Searcy; daughter-in-law Linda James of Springhill, Tenn.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one special surrogate granddaughter, Eva Balai of Budapest, Hungary.
Richard retired from the United States Air Force in 1972 after 30 years of services as a pilot. He graduated from Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock in 1975 and then served as the Education Minister for the Sunset Church of Christ until 1977. He served as minister for the Valley Road Church of Christ in Warrington, Penn. for 10 years, and then “retired” for a second time to Corsicana, where he served as elder and Minister of Encouragement for the Westhill Church of Christ. He was a faithful member of the church for 67 years, and served as an elder for three congregations.
Richard and his family were so blessed by the loving care that he received from the special nurses and aides at Searcy Healthcare.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Downtown Church of Christ with visitation following.
A second memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Westhill Church of Christ in Corsicana with visitation following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the building fund at College Church of Christ, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
