Wayne Clark Collins Sr.

Wayne Clark Collins, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in Krum, Texas.

Wayne was born Feb. 2, 1931 in Hill County, Texas near Itasca. He attended Corpus Christi Senior High School. He earned a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1962. He received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Arlington and was a graduate of the Anglican School of Theology at the University of Dallas. He was ordained as Deacon in the Episcopal Church and served congregations in Corsicana and Houston.

Lt. Col. Wayne Collins retired from The United States Air Force in 1973 after 21 years of service as an OSI and Security Police Officer. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving his country in combat during 1968 and1969.

Wayne worked as Independent Security Analyst and Fraud Auditor with Arabian American Oil Company for 10 years and as Independent Investigator for the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury, The U.S. Office of Personnel Management, The U.S Customs Dept. and FEMA.

He was a member of the VFW, DAV, American Legion, MOAA, The Vietnam Veterans of America, and Lions International. He served on the Governing Board of Directors of the public libraries of Corsicana and Krum, Texas.

Among numerous citations for service to the community, he was named Outstanding Older Texan by Gov. Ann Richards in 1993.  He also received the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and many other service medals over the course of his career.

Wayne married the love of his life, Lee Hawkins on March 25, 1951 in the Grace United Methodist Church of Annaville, Texas. Together they raised six children.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynda, and is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lee Collins; brother, James Collins; daughters, Laury Scharber, Wendy Withers; sons, Wayne Clark Collins, Jr., Michael Collins, Daniel Collins; Son-in-law Mark Withers, John Lavoie; daughters-in-law, Amelia Collins, Rebecca Collins; grandchildren, Rene Crow, Christine Taylor, Nick Lavoie, Jake Lavoie, Catherine Scharber, Caitlin Collins, Carson Collins, Jaqui Smith, Jessie Soule; numerous great-grandchildren and many, many friends, family, and relations whose lives he touched. He will be very much missed by all.

 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Krum First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Christy Thomas officiating.  Memorials may be made to the Corsicana Epiphany Scholarship Fund, 813 Grandview Dr., Corsicana, TX 75109 or the Music Ministry of Krum First United Methodist Church, 1001 E. McCart St., Krum, TX 76249.
