Bob Gates

Corsicana — Mr. Bob Gates, age 87, a longtime Corsicana resident known to many as “Gator” went to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon, January 17, 2013, peacefully at Twilight Nursing Home after a brief illness.  He was born December 13, 1925 in Denver, Colorado to Charles and Delores Gates.  Bob was raised at the Methodist Boys Home in Waco until he joined the Navy in 1942.

Bob worked as a painter by trade and wall paper contractor in Corsicana for many years.  He loved to go fishing and grow tomatoes in his garden.  The greatest gift Bob gave to his family and many friends was his sense of humor and smile.  His smile was special and he loved others around him to be happy.  He was a true patriot who loved his country.  A veteran of two wars, Bob served his country proudly in both the Navy and the Air Force.  He served on the USS Calvert in the South Pacific during WWII going to over thirty eight countries.  He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Corrine; grandson, Christopher Ryan Scoggins; 2 sisters, Ila Mae Bromberg and Beulah Gates; and a brother Charles Albert Gates.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Scoggins of Corsicana who cared for Bob faithfully at her home the past four years, and Cynthia Scoggins and husband Ralph of Corsicana; 2 twin sons, Alton Gates and wife Lana of Wichita Falls, and Dalton Gates and Jeannie of Greenville; grandchildren, Dustin Scoggins and wife Vicki of Corsicana, Clifton Scoggins, Clayton Richards, Malissa Shults and husband Bobby, Rachel Gates, Dalton Gates, Jr. and Mandy Gates; great grandchildren Hayley Scoggins, Makayla Scoggin, Katelyn Scoggins, Andrew McElwreath, James Scoggins, Ryan Scoggins, Keith Bullard, Kaegan Shults, Bryce Richards and Ethon Scoggins.

Visitation with the family will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Saturday at Corley Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be 12:00 Noon Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery with Bro. Bill Honea officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Twilight Nursing Home for their kindness during our father’s short stay.  Also, we would like to thank everyone at Navarro Regional Hospital ER, ICU, and 2nd floor staff, nurses and doctors who took such good care of our father.  Hand and Hand Hospice, we thank you for everything you did to comfort our dad.  We appreciate every one of you.
