Agnes “Aggie” Mae Smith Richardson passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012. She was 90 years old.
Aggie was a resident of Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana. She was born to Beulah and William Arthur Smith on Aug. 26, 1922 in Howe (Grayson County), Texas. She had one sister, Cleo Bernice “Neicie” Smith.
Agnes graduated from Teague High School in 1940. She then attended Texas State College for Women (what is now TWU) in Denton.
Agnes traveled by train to marry Newell Luther Richardson, Jr. while he was stationed in Monterrey, Calif. They wed on Aug. 29, 1944. They were blessed with two children, a son, Ronald Arthur, and a daughter, Beverly Kay.
Luther and Aggie made their home in Texas City, Fairfield, Houston, Dallas, Arlington and Kennedale, Texas. They enjoyed hosting family and friends, playing 42 and spending time on their Eden Road front porch. You must agree Aggie was a loving and patient wife considering all of the adventures Luther put before her! Aggie enjoyed cross-stitch and crochet and was a perfectionist when it came to her handwork. She was a treasured member of her Tuesday Night Women’s Bible Study.
Not only was Agnes a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she also worked for Aldine Schools in Houston and later for Packaging Corporation in Grand Prairie.
Aggie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Newell Luther Richardson, Jr. and her sweet sister, Cleo Bernice “Neicie” Smith Coates of Tyler in 2007.
Survivors include her children, Rena and Ronnie Richardson of Corsicana and Beverly and Jerry Hepler of Arlington; two grandchildren, Tina Lee Hepler Sperry of McKinney and Sean Paul Hepler of Crowley. “GiGi” was adored by her six great-grandchildren, Audrey, Lauren, Ella and Nolan Sperry and Morgan and Gage Hepler.
The family will welcome visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at Corley Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 with Brother Ed Ridge of Round Prairie Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Antioch Cemetery in Fairfield.
Pallbearers are Bill Coates, Braden Coates, Vic Hall, Jerry Hepler, Sean Hepler and Brian Sperry.
Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Coates, Jimmy Lamoureux, Dr. James Richardson, Maben Richardson, Gail Whittington and David Wilcox.
Memorials may be made to Prisoners for Christ at P.O. Box 996, Fairfield, Texas 75840, a ministry in which her son and daughter-in-law are active.
