Nita Leaton Barton

Nita Leaton Barton, 81, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Corsicana on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.

Nita was born on March 8, 1931, in Nocona, to the late Alonzo and Cleo Leaton. Upon graduation from Nocona High School in 1948, she moved to Gainesville. It was here she attended a midnight showing of “Gone with the Wind” and met the man with whom she would share the next 63 years of her life. That journey began on Nov. 14, 1949, when she wed the love of her life, David Barton. And in 1958 that journey took them to Corsicana.

Nita loved her family dearly and devoted her life to them, giving of herself and asking for nothing in return. She loved sharing stories of her childhood about growing up in the country in Nocona, like squirting milk at the kittens that would surround her as she milked the cows, and how she actually walked a mile to catch the school bus.

Words will never be able to describe how much this wife, mother, and friend will be missed. We love you Nita and we love you Momma.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Doyle and Bill; and her sisters, Melba, Laverne and Norma Jean.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, David Barton; her brother, Wyman Leaton; son, Gary Barton and his wife Diane; son, Terry Barton; son, Lane Barton and wife Rae Cene; and daughter, Lisa Barton Morales. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura, Hope, Joshua, Nikki and Katie, as well as her great grandson, Connor; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per Nita’s wishes there will not be a visitation; however, the graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. B. F. Risinger Jr. officiating.

An online guest book is available at www.corleyfuneralhome.com by selecting the Nita Leaton Barton obituary.

Arrangements by Corley Funeral Home, Corsicana.
