John Henry (J.H.) Gorden Jr., 77, of Purdon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.
He was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Blooming Grove. He was the oldest of eight children born to John Henry and Bertha Mae Seals Gorden.
He served in the National Guard 1957-1958. He married Evelyn E. Boyd Gorden on March 19, 1957 in Dallas County. He was a carpenter by trade all of his adult life. Upon retiring from carpentry he was a Home Care Provider in Navarro County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Robert Gorden and Herman Gorden, sister Sue Melton, daughter Kimberly Gorden Monthey and a son-in-law.
Survivors include one son, James Sterling and wife Patricia of Navarro Mills; daughter, Vickie Grounds and husband Gary of Blooming Grove; two sisters, Peggy Kindrick and Patsy Gorden, both of Navarro Mills; two brothers, Tommy Gorden and wife Patsy of Navarro Mills, and Donald Gorden and wife Glenda of Denison; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; stepson, Steve Hughes and wife Barbara of Coppell.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
