Jerry Lynn Kisner Kirkpatrick, 67, of San Antonio, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.
She was born Nov. 15, 1945 in Amarillo to Jerrel Travis Kisner and Mary Elizabeth Weatherly Kisner.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a graduate of Amarillo College, Texas Technological University and the University of Texas of San Antonio. She taught English as a Second Language at several colleges and served as Parish Administrator of Saint David’s Episcopal Church. Mrs. Kirkpatrick also home-schooled her son and was involved in many voluntary service projects in the communities where she lived.
As an Army wife and mother, she served in Panama, Korea, and at multiple posts in the United States and traveled extensively with her family, greatly enjoying meeting other peoples and experiencing their cultures. Her willing servant’s heart and eagerness to care for all of the families in her husband’s units will be long remembered as the exemplar of a Commanding Officer’s First Lady. She was recognized for her contributions with the Commander’s Award for Public Service, the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal and the Dr. Mary E. Walker Award. Upon the occasion of her husband’s retirement from active duty, she was recognized as an Honorary Member of the Army Medical Department Regiment and a Yellow Rose of Texas.
She was a devoted Church woman, member of the Altar Guild and the Daughters of the King, and, for seven years, a staff member of St. David’s Episcopal Church. In retirement, she started a group for active seniors called “Prime Timers” and organized their first outings.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick was preceded in death by her father, Jerrel Travis Kisner; and her younger brother, Jonathan Kisner.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, James William Kirkpatrick; and their son, John William Travis Kirkpatrick, both of San Antonio; her mother, Mary Elizabeth Kisner of Amarillo; her sister, Mary Beth Kisner Griffin and her husband Robert Griffin of Chicago, Ill.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Porter Loring on McCullough.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 1300 Wiltshire, San Antonio.
