Marshall Mahoney, resident of Corsicana, passed away on Wednesday morning, Feb. 6, 2013 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village at the age of 73. He was born on Friday, March 10, 1939 in Austin to J. C. Mahoney and Katherine Ganze Mahoney. Early in his life he was raised in Pursley with his mother and great grandparents, Henry and Rebekah Pursley while his father served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war his father returned to Corsicana and built J.C. Mahoney Body Shop where Marshall worked for over 40 years. He joined the Army Reserves in the 1960's and spent most of his life working until the death of his father in 1987. In later years he spent considerable time tending to cattle on the family farm. He was a member of the Westhill Church of Christ where he loved to serve as a greeter. Marshall enjoyed music and spending time with his pets which became his children since he never married.
Marshall was preceded in death by his father J. C. Mahoney in 1987.
Surviving family include his mother Katherine Mahoney of Corsicana; his sister Rita Dominy and her husband Dan, and brother David Mahoney and his wife Sharon, all of Corsicana. There are also a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin - Roughton Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery with Sam Dilbeck officiating. Pallbearers will be Wes Dominy, George Ganze, Glenn Hardin, Larry Moore, Dickie Russell, and Louis Ray Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Brown, Dan Gibson, Joe Glass, Paul Green, Charles Henry Harrison, James Milam, Bud Moore, Dean Murray, and Joe Nussbaum.
Marshall’s family would like to thank Dr. William McHenry, the administration, staff, nurses, aides, and drivers at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village, and Lighthouse Hospice for their care of Marshall. They would also like to thank the American Cancer Society Navarro Unit and Ruth Nelson for the help with his treatment process.
