Elder Vernon Jessie, 84, of Corsicana passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

He was born April 4, 1928 to the parentage of Lucion Jessie, Sr. and Essie Jessie in Corsicana. Vernon was educated at G. W. Jackson High School and a veteran of the United States Army.

On June 16, 1956 he married Annie Mae Smith and they remained married 54 years until her death on March 9, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Essie Brenham and Florine Davis.

Vernon was employed at Oil City Iron Works, Chattanooga Glass, Wolf Brand Chili and was retired from Collin Street Bakery.

He was a long time member at Renfro Chapel Church Of God In Christ and  also served as the Assistant Pastor. He was a member of the St. Timothy Lodge  68 and also served as the Financier. He served 31 years as Pastor of the St. Paul Church Of God In Christ in Teague, and also served as the Financier for the Mexia East District Churches Of God In Christ.

Vernon was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Erma and husband Richard Bartee of Corsicana;  two granddaughters, Regina Henderson (Darryl), Aimee Ballard (Larry), one grandson, Richard C. Bartee (Leslie); eight great-grandchildren; Catherine, Chris and Richard Ivan Bartee; Kennedy, Haylee and Cassidy Ballard; Taylor and Jarrett Henderson; one brother, Lucion Jr. and wife Gussie Jessie;  one sister, Louise Alexander; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the St. Paul Church Of God In Christ Family.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church located at 2105 East Jones Avenue in Corsicana, with the Pastor Alfred Cox Jr. officiating, and Supt. L. J. Manning, Eulogist.  Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park.  Arrangements by Ross and Johnson Mortuary.
