Bro. Joe H. Wilbanks, age 92 years, seven months and four days, of Trinidad, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012. He was born May 1, 1920 in Eureka to Walter and Lila Mae Wilbanks. He was known to all of his friends as Bro. Joe.
Bro. Joe was a Baptist minister, cattle rancher, and gardener most of his life. He married Melba Moseley on June 27, 1943 and they were happily married for 68 years, until her death on April 10, 2011. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He pastored many churches for over 60 years, including Rural Shade in Kerens, Shady Grove in Purdon, Crews in Ballinger, First Missionary in Morton, Missionary in Paducah, College Avenue (formerly Harmony) in Levelland, Park Place in Abilene, Calvary in Trinidad, Fellowship in Corsicana, Sand Flat and First Baptist both in Grand Saline, Old Bethel in Canton, Payne Springs in Mabank, New Hope in Winkler, and First Baptist in St. Elmo; and conducted many revivals and seminars.
He is survived by sons, Billy Joe Wilbanks and wife Sheila of Trinidad and Jerry Wilbanks and wife Jan of Dallas; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Graveside services in celebration of Bro. Joe’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jim Bob Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
