Corsicana —
Mrs. Dorothy Watson Honea went to be in the presence of her loving Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. Our Lord looked down on her pain and said, “Come unto me all ye who labor and hurt and I will give you rest for your soul, and rest for your spirit.” He sent his angels to escort her to the portals of heaven.
Dorothy was a true and faithful servant to her Lord. As a long-time member of First Baptist Church, she was a blessing to many as she went about serving her Lord in various ways. For many years, she taught 5-6 year olds in her Sunday school class and had numerous stories about the precious acts of the children she loved so much.
As she ministered to those in need on various mission trips with her church, she developed a love of travel. In later years, she especially loved traveling and performing with the Solid Rockers Choir. Another of her favorite activities was visiting local nursing homes, ministering to the residents, and painting hundreds of ladies fingernails over the years. She gave of herself to her family, her church family, and many others until her health began to fail.
She was born in Emhouse, Texas on April 9, 1926 to Oliver and Birdie Watson, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her five sisters, Dovie Powell, Louise Jones, Claudia Murphy, Jean McKnight and Tincie Mach; and two brothers, Arthur Watson and Herman Watson.
She was a loving and caring wife to Bill Honea for 66 years; all the while, encouraging and praying for his ministry, and looking for ways to serve God. When times were tough, she was there, praying and seeking God’s presence.
Dorothy loved her family and was a beautiful mother to her children, Larry Honea and Kathy Honea McFerrin. She was a wonderful Mamaw to her grandchildren, Kyle Honea, Jason Thomas, Scott Honea and Andrew Boales; and the beloved great-grandmother to Peyton Thomas, Sierra Thomas, Sadie Thomas, Dylan Honea and Dominic Honea. She is also survived by a brother, Woodrow Watson of Mertens and sister, Gladys Bishop of Bellmead.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Reeves and Rev. B.F. Risinger, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church, 510 W. Collin St., Corsicana, TX 75110.
