Corsicana —
Virginia Lee Richards Harper, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012. She was born on Feb. 9, 1943 in Corsicana to E.H. (Ruck) and Mary Elenor Richards. She was a graduate of Corsicana High School (1961) and married her high school sweetheart, Johnny L. Harper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, E.H. and Elenor Richards; sisters, Kathryn Wilson and Faye Harrison.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Johnny Harper; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Harper of Plano; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Wayne Powell of Corsicana; grandchildren, Kaley, Claire and Zachary Harper of Plano, Alexandra Powell of Dallas and Amanda Powell of Corsicana. She is also survived by brothers, L.D. Richards and wife Andrea, Danny Richards and wife Cecilee, all of Corsicana and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virginia held various retail positions, but her most treasured occupation was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Virginia never met a stranger and loved spending time with others. She was a woman who was joyful beyond all understanding with an infectious laugh and great sense of humor. She had an unwavering love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and expressed that love through her many years as a Sunday school teacher and group leader at Community Bible Study. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church for many years.
The family would like to express our thanks to the staff at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village for the love and care they gave Virginia over the last two years.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana with Pastor Rick Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bryan Ball, Mike Ball, Kyle Harrison, Richard Harrison, Buddy Richards and Matt Richards.
