Cassandra DuBose Reagor

Cassandra DuBose Reagor died at her home in Frisco, Texas, on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1940, to Fred A. and Dee DuBose of Corsicana and was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Diana DuBose Kincannon Dixon; and a nephew, John G. Kincannon.

Sandy is survived by two sons and their families of Frisco, Cameron and Polly Reagor and children Jack, Will, and Paige; and Matthew and Sherry Reagor and son Nicholas.

Other survivors are her brother Fred DuBose Jr., of New York City, and five nieces: Kathy Kincannon Quinby and Angela Dixon Ponce of Dallas; Ashley Dixon Burns of Manvel, Texas; Kate DuBose Tomassi of San Francisco; and Polly DuBose of Nashville. Also surviving Sandy are her most precious friends — Robert Keathley, Patricia Warthan Hudson, and Carol Jackson Shearer, all of Corsicana.

Left to the loving care of her grandchildren is her beloved dog, Freddy.

Cassandra's irrepressible creativity extended to speech, and in her senior year at Corsicana High School her recitation of The White Magnolia Tree won State in the Interscholastic League poetry reading competition. Read today, portions of poet Helen Deutsch’s meditation on lost youth speak to Sandy's latter years.

“We have known many things since then: /...what loyalty can mean/ And how real a word like courage can become/ And that solitude can be rich and gratifying and quite different from loneliness...”

A private burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in early January.
