Valda Dean Lonon Bonner, 78, of Corsicana went home to be with her Lord and Savior at Navarro Regional Hospital with all of family by her side on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.
Valda was born March 31, 1934 to Valon and Nora Ware Lonon at Powell. Valda was a 4-H Leader for over 20 years and supported 4-H and FFA. She taught Sunday School at Powell Baptist Church and Northside Baptist where she was a member. Valda retired from Medical Arts Clinic after 23 years of dedicated service. After retirement, her house quickly became the hang out for all her grandchildren and their friends. She became known as Gran to all that stopped by. Gran’s house was stocked with their favorite drinks and her kitchen was always open. Gran loved all of “her kids” as she called them. They knew they could call her or stop by anytime day or night. Gran loved to attend basketball and football games to watch her grandkids play. Her voice could always be heard above all others. Valda never met a stranger.
Valda is preceded in death by her parents, Valon and Nora Ware Lonon of Powell; brothers, Afton Lonon, Terry Lonon; brother, George Lonon and wife Delia Lonon; and daughter, Ledenna Kay Bonner.
Survivors include daughter, Pat Reed and her favorite son-in-law Joe Reed of Barry; son, Wayne Bonner and her favorite daughter-in-law Amy Bonner of Retreat; grandchildren, Allison Rogers and husband Ryan, Adam Bonner, Andrew Bonner and wife Casey, Russell Reed and wife Audrey, all of Corsicana; Jacob Reed of Barry and Scott Reed of College Station; great grandchildren, Lillie Reed, Jaxson Reed and Will Rogers. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; inherited daughter, Diane Dixon Mannon of Irving; special friend, Sarah Roberts of Corsicana; and all of her adopted kids and grandkids.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Gipson and the Rev. Amy Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Baumgartner, Joe Harrell, Josh Tackett, Dan Kent, Clayton VanLoocke and G. L. Thomas.
Special thanks to the staff at Heritage Oaks West, Dr. Kent Rogers and the ICU Unit at Navarro Regional Hospital for the loving care and attention they selflessly gave Valda.
