Kevin Robert Kelledy was released from the confines of his earthly existence on Dec. 29, 2012 after a long hard-fought courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 3, 1951 in the Borough of Bronx, NY to Robert Joseph Kelledy and Joan Margaret McDonald Kelledy. Kevin was a first generation American, as his mother was born in County Tipperary, Ireland.
Kevin became a proud Texan early in his life as his family relocated from New York to the Houston area. Growing up in Friendswood, Kevin was very active in sports, excelling in baseball, basketball and football. In 1969, Kevin led his high school basketball team to the state championship. In September 2011, Kevin and his teammates were inducted into the Friendswood High School Sports Hall of Fame which was quite an honor. Kevin entered college life at Alvin Jr. College and then went on to Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. From there Kevin was employed by the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. of Washington, D.C. as a sales management executive.
After years of travel away from home and family, and extremely long days and nights at the job, Kevin accomplished his goal of an early retirement from BNA in November of 2006. Together with his beloved wife Vickie, they began a search for their perfect retirement home. Their search led them to a beautiful lakefront lot on Richland Chambers Lake in Corsicana. They soon began construction on their dream home, which Kevin made sure included an indoor showroom and massive garage like no other in which to showcase his numerous and ever changing prized vehicle collection. Kevin’s passion for working on and restoring vehicles for himself and others continued to grow. He was a much loved and respected member of the Shakers and Scrapers Car Club of Corsicana. The “Kelledy Garage and Irish Pub” was always open as many sought him out for his knowledge, skill and tenacity at troubleshooting as well as the affable camaraderie had by all. As Kevin’s health began to restrict some of his activities, he developed an interest in radio controlled aircraft. His love of aviation led him to begin a large collection of aircraft. Teaching himself to fly them through trial and error, Kevin then went on to counsel others in the skills he had mastered. He derived great joy in the countless hours spent working in his garage on his cars and flying these planes. Kevin had numerous other interests such as fishing, boating, sharpshooting (snakes mostly), and watching “his” football team, the NY Giants. Kevin had a huge heart, a great wit and knew how to live life large. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kerry Kelledy Miller.
Kevin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Vickie Rains Kelledy; a daughter Raven, her husband Hunter, and a grandson Greyson Firchow of Kyle, Texas; a sister, Donna Accordo and husband Sid of Kemah; also nieces Kacie Miller of Richmond, Texas, Kelsie, Kourtney, Kendall and Kailyn Kelledy all of Friendswood.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 and a celebration of Kevin’s life will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at 10 a.m., both under the direction of Corley Funeral Home.
