Corsicana —
Mrs. Gloria Tidwell Menton, 64, of Corsicana, walked peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, with her family by her side.
She was born on Aug. 20, 1948, in Coolidge, to parents Elmer Lee and Ozell Lewis.
She was a childcare provider in the community for over 25 years, but her role was much greater that that. Mrs. Gloria (”Meme” to some) was a Godly mother to many children leaving them with wonderful memories, and responsible for a large part of their development in life. She was an active member of Second Avenue Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren at all their sporting events, going dancing and in the last six years traveling across the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Lee Tidwell; and the father of her children, Frank Stewart; sisters, Betty Broughton, Diane Hansen, and Juanita Carroll.
Survivors include her husband, Marcus Menton of Corsicana; daughters, Cindy Cates and husband Steve of Corsicana, Nancy Minton and husband Eddie of Ennis, and Deeann Stewart and companion William Annis of Corsicana; step-son, Mark Menton of Ennis; step-daughter, Kathy Blackwood of Arlington; grandsons, Joshua Bruso of Corsicana, Scotty Minton of Ennis, Colton and Cavender Villarreal of Corsicana, and Evan Whit Annis of Corsicana; granddaughters, Carly and Abbie Cates of Corsicana, Samantha Minton of Ennis, and Melanie Villarreal of Corsicana; step-grandson, Stephen Menton of Chicago, Ill.; step-granddaughters, Emily Menton of Nacogdoches, and Jenifer Abernathy of Fort Worth; step-great grandson, Sean Abernathy of Fort Worth; sisters, Margaret Cogdell of Tawakoni, Pat Lastly and husband Tommy of Burnett, and Jeannette Bang and husband David of Mexia; brothers, Jack Lewis and wife Carolyn of Mexia, Charlie Lewis and wife Dell of Tawakoni, and Terry Don Lewis and wife Carol of Georgia; she also leaves behind the Tidwell family which she loved very much, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Corley Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Scott officiating.
Pallbearers will be Cavender Villarreal, Colton Villarreal, Scotty Minton, Joshua Bruso, Mark Menton, Chuck Tidwell, and Charles Newman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Tidwell, Aaron Tidwell and Kris Tidwell.
