Winna Weeks Jones, 86, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Oak Hollow Memory Care Unit in Bedford.
She was born Sept. 15, 1925 in Huntington, Texas and was raised in Kilgore. Mrs. Jones was valedictorian of her Kilgore High Class and held degrees from Kilgore College, Baylor University and a Masters in Library Science from Vanderbilt/Peabody in Nashville, Tenn.
She moved to Corsicana in 1956 when her husband, Dr. Ben W. Jones, was chosen president of Navarro College. Mrs. Jones was active in civic affairs and served as president of Bowie P.T.O., Thalian Literary Club, the Navarro Regional Auxiliary, and on the board of Kinsloe House.
She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught in the nursery for 28 years, served on various committees and sang in the choir for almost 50 years.
She was employed as a librarian at University of Texas and Baylor University. She became librarian at Corsicana High School in 1967 until her retirement 1994. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer with the Navarro Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Pearce Museum at Navarro College, and served on the board of Corsicana Public Library.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ben Jones; and parents, Dimp and D.W. Weeks.
Survivors include her sons, Chris Jones and wife Gail of Bedford, and Kevin Jones of Carrollton; granddaughter, Rayden; grandson, Caleb of San Angelo; and great-granddaughter, Alyvia Grace Weeks Diaz of San Angelo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr. and Dr. Danny Reeves officiating. Interment will be in Kilgore City Cemetery at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Hampton officiating.
