Corsicana —
Ed Gray was born in Odessa on March 15, 1938 to Allen and Juanita “Dutch” (Flowers) Gray and died on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.
Ed graduated from Corsicana High School in 1956 and from North Texas State College in 1959. He was married to Sue Wilks in 1958. They had two children, Beth and Guy. He was a letterman in football at North Texas and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. His work history included Combined American Insurance Co., Tennessee Gas and Oil, Pfizer Pharmaceutical, becoming a District Manager for 10 years, and Russell Newman Mfg. Co. He delivered Meals on Wheels for several years after retirement and enjoyed taking products to Our Daily Bread. He also enjoyed golf and his golfing friends and found joy in yard work and home projects. He was a Deacon at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL and is a current member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Guy and Ellie Flowers, with whom he lived as a child, and Edgar and Mary Gray.
Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Gray; his children, Beth Gray Whipple and her husband Randy, Guy Gray and his wife Tracey, his grandchildren, Clint Joseph and Sarah Gray Goocher, nephews and nieces, Bill Wilks and wife Cindy, Bob Wilks and wife Sherrie, Betsy Wilks and their sister, Anne Jeanmard and husband Mark; step-grandchildren, Ryan Whipple and his wife Caty, and Jessica Whipple; sister-in-law, Bunny Heroman, five wonderful great nephews and nieces, and three precious great-great nieces and nephew. He is also survived by special cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Oak St., Denton. Rev. Steve Plunkett will officiate the service. Internment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 at Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana.
Honorary pallbearers are: John Troeger, Roy Richardson, Guy Poarch, Ned Polk, Frank Lyle, Kurt Sewell, Chuck Crouch, Rob Stewart, Don Harper, Brett Houser, Joe Farmer, Lee Popejoy and Jim Mudd.
