Robert Lee Jenkins

Robert Lee Jenkins, 85, passed away June 13, 2008. Robert was born on Jan. 15, 1923, in Avalon to Carl B. and Polly Tek (Trull) Jenkins. He grew up in the Avalon and Italy communities and graduated from Italy High School. He married Nova Sheppard on March 5, 1949.

Robert served in World War II and worked as printer from 1946 until 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove. He was preceded in death by his wife Nova, daughter Rebecca J. Hawa, mother Polly, father Carl, and brothers Ralph and Glen.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Guy Jenkins of Rice and Rodney Carl Jenkins of Terrell; sister, Frances Manke and her husband Elmer Manke of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Jenkins of Nash; grandchildren, Joshua L. and Stacey Haws of Mertens, Kendyl Haws of Frost, and Kevin R. Freeman of Blooming Grove; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life, in memory of Robert, will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Blooming Grove with Brother Grady Cashion officiating.
