Corsicana —
Erna Martin, known as “Niffy,” 78, of Corsicana, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Heritage Oaks West.
She was born Aug. 13, 1934, to the parentage of Elvie Martin and Erma Brown Martin in Elm Flat. She received her formal education in the G. W. Jackson School District and professed Christ in her life at an early age and united with the Second Mission Baptist Church. She later united with the Harmony Baptist Church and remained a member until her passing.
She enjoyed collecting antiques and trinkets.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Erma Jean “Beth”; four brothers, James Smith “Bubba”, Freddie Smith “Yetta”, L. V. Smith “Bunch”, and Billy Martin.
Survivors include her children, Melva Sadler and husband Timothy, Brenda Hausman and husband Rick, Yolanda Cottman and husband the Rev. Martin Cottman, all of Corsicana; Billy Martin of Corsicana, Byron Grant and wife Mimi of Cedar Hill, Daudren Martin and wife Angela of Mexia, and Terrance Martin of Lancaster; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Ballard and Ernestine Allen, both of Corsicana; one brother, Gene Martin of Corsicana; goddaughter, Gloria Ballard; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including her friends at Heritage Oaks West.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Lifeline Fellowship Family Church at 5301 West Highway 31, Corsicana, with Pastor Ernest Betts Jr. as messenger, and Pastor Eric Grant Sr., officiating.
Active Pallbearers are Derrick Holmes, Christopher Allen, Brian Martin, Byron Terrell Hughes, Marvin Holmes and Zackary Holmes.
Honorary Pallbearers are Reginald Polk, Bryce Polk, Brandon Polk, Dannell Grant, Steve Smith and Ricky Smith.

Mrs. Velma Lee Sherrill Waters, 75, of Mesquite passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Ovilla, Texas. She was born July 21, 1937 in Trinidad. She was the daughter of Robert Barton Sherrill and Leona Lafay (Chidester) Sherrill.
