Sybil Minshew Sehon

Sybil Minshew Sehon of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at the age of 100.

She was born in Quanah, Texas, on July 22, 1912, to Cliff and Etta Minshew. She graduated from Clara High School in Clara, Texas in 1930, and married her high school sweetheart, J.O. Sehon, in November 1930. They were married for 67 years, and were blessed with two children, John and Shirley.

Sybil spent the majority of her adult life living in West Texas, spending many of those years living in various oil field camps in Pampa, Denver City, Midland, Lefors and Odessa. Her husband, J.O. was a Gauger and then a Supervisor for Humble Oil (Exxon Mobil) for his entire career, which led to their active involvement in the Exxon Annuitants club for many years.

Sybil was proud to be a housewife who never worked outside the home except for the one season when she picked cotton so that she could buy a leather coat for her husband.

Sybil enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, and fishing with her husband. She attended Ladies Bible at church for many years. She was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks and enjoyed spending many hours playing games with her family and friends, having perfected her “9 hole golf” game. Sybil also enjoyed her many pets, even the turtles that lived in her backyard and returned year after year.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was actively interested in all her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments.

She moved to Corsicana from Odessa in March of 2002 to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

One of her proudest moments was reaching her 100th birthday, and she enjoyed her birthday celebration in July with all of her family and many friends in attendance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.O. Sehon.

Survivors include her son, John Sehon and his wife Sue of Birmingham, Ala; her daughter, Shirley Bowen and her husband Don of Corsicana; granddaughter, Brenda Sandifer,  and husband, Hugh, of Abilene; grandson, Donny Bowen, and his wife Sheryl, of Amarillo; granddaughter, Bridget Price and her husband Don Allen of Dallas; and granddaughter, Briana Fleming and her husband Eric of Keller. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Dakota Sandifer, Madison Sandifer, Collin Bowen, Logan Price, Brinley Price, Ethan Fleming, Rhett Fleming and Zane Fleming.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Ella Humphrey, Beverly Baisy, Pat Watkins, Cassandra Brown, Annette Bartee, Sherry Johnson, and Shemaki Robinson and the staff and aides at Heritage Oaks Assisted Living for their loving care and attention during the last years and months of her wonderful life.

Pallbearers are Donny Bowen, Hugh Sandifer, Don Allen Price, Eric Fleming, Collin Bowen, Logan Price, Ethan Fleming, Rhett Fleming, and Zane Fleming.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, in the chapel at Westhill Church of Christ in Corsicana.

Visitation will be held following the service in the Outreach Center at Westhill. Interment will follow on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 in Odessa, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
