Fanell Smith Dunagan passed away Friday, March 15, 2013.
Fanell lived a life of faith, strength, and service.
Fanell Smith was born Aug. 21, 1920, at McCord, a farming community south of Frost, to John Grover and Bertha Mae Bell Smith. She was the eldest of three daughters, followed by Joyce Marie and Sara Helen (Tommie). After World War II was over, she met the love of her life, Lucius Victor (L.V.) Dunagan in Frost. They were married in 1948, and had two children: John Victor Dunagan and Cheryl Marie Dunagan Pratt. L.V. passed away of cancer in 1956. She never remarried. She worked as a seamstress and manager in the clothes manufacturing business until retirement. The only thing she loved more than her family was the Lord whom she served faithfully until her final breath before joining him on Friday, March 15th at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lucius Victor, her two sisters and brother-in-laws, Joyce and Rev. Frank Williams, and Sarah Helen (Tommie) and Sam Moore, and nephew Joey Smith Moore.
She is survived by son John Dunagan of Dallas, daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Mark Pratt of Cryer Creek, grandsons Joseph Pratt of Cryer Creek, Matthew Pratt of Dallas, and Gabriel Pratt of Lubbock, nephews and wives Jim and Mandy Moore of Little Rock, Ark., Jerry and Janet Moore of Williamsburg, Va., and Russell and Judi Williams of Waxahachie and many more great nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Service was 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Frost Baptist Church in Frost. Burial followed at Frost Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village for their loving care they provided her during these last six years. She was so appreciative of everyone who took care of her. She is in a better place now. Heaven is even better because she is there, and this world is a better place because she was here.
