Corsicana —
Justina Budai Cox, age 95, of Corsicana, formerly of Schertz, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Twilight Nursing Home.
Justina was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Alma. She was the second of nine children born to Dan and Annie Szenasi Budai.
On June 21, 1941, she married Delbert Cox (U.S. Army retired) from Pickett, Texas, and remained united for 48 years until his death in 1989. Being a soldier’s wife, she traveled to many different bases and spent time in Germany. Justina was a wonderful cook and learned many recipes from her mother; brought here when her parents immigrated from Hungary to America in the 1890’s to make a better life for themselves. In her younger days, Justina loved to crotchet, quilt and create crafts. She was a stay at home mom and loved working in her yard. Justina loved to dance as a young woman and you could always catch her patting her foot when country music was playing. She passed on the love of country dancing to her daughter, Celia.
She was preceded in death by parents, Dan and Annie Budai; brothers, Dan Budai and Emory Budai; sisters, Rosa Budai Offutt, Vera Budai Murphy, and Christina Budai Lane.
She leaves behind a daughter, Celia Del Cox of Corsicana; grandsons, Franklin D. Tarr of Shertz, and Terry E. Tarr and wife Rebecca of New Braunfels; great-granddaughter, Shelby Tarr of New Braunfels; sisters, Lucille Budai Brown, Ruth Budai Boone and Ethel Budai Rash; sister-in-law, Norma Budai; and numerous nieces and nephews. Known to everyone as “Granny,” she adored her grandsons and would light up when they were around.
The family wishes to extend a special “thanks” to the staff at Twilight Home. Their dedication and love and caring was above the call of duty.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with Brother Bill Witten officiating.
